A Quiet Storm tells a timely, relevant story about events that occur almost every day throughout America. Cities like New Orleans, Detroit, Baltimore, Oakland and Chicago share an unfortunate culture of violence that often emerges from impoverished neighborhoods like Hollygrove. This film will explore how a single crime affects people both in and outside of one of these communities, and how the repercussions of an individual's actions (or willful inaction) can alter the lives of many others.
THE FILMMAKER:
Jason Affolder is a New Orleans Firefighter and independent filmmaker. He and his creative comrades at Gargantuan Motion Pictures and Nevermind Productions have created dozens of projects in the last decade, including the feature length movie SUN DOGS, award-winning short films SNOOZER and LOST NIGHT, and inventive music videos for JAMES APOLLO and GOOD GUYS. Each of these productions was entirely financed by Affolder himself, their budgets always limited to the contents of his savings account. Now we are asking for your help in gathering the money needed to bring this new feature film to life.
THE GOAL:
We are hoping to raise $10,000 in donations as a budget for A Quiet Storm. There are various levels of contribution possible, ranging from $20 to $1000, and each has a perk associated with it. Every dollar counts, and regardless of whether the total goal is collected, the money generated during this campaign will allow us to commence with pre-production. The script is complete, core creative personnel have already been recruited, and we will soon be auditioning actors. With our proposed budget we would have sufficient funds to compensate the cast and crew for their work, secure the locations where this story unfolds, and rent the high-end equipment needed to make a quality movie.
THE TIMELINE:
Making a movie takes time, and one can never predict every challenge that will emerge along the way, but here is a rough production schedule:
Summer 2014 - Fundraising...
Autumn 2014 - Pre-Production... Cast the actors, complete the crew, scout the locations, order the equipment...
Winter/Spring 2015 - Production... Shoot the damn thing!
Summer/Autumn 2015 - Post-Production... Editing, color timing, sound design, recording the score...
Premiere A QUIET STORM by 2016...
THE RECORD:
Looking through the back catalog of Gargantuan Motion Pictures shows that we are capable of making well-crafted, high quality projects with very little money (our first feature SUN DOGS cost less than $7500!). And many of the same talented individuals who brought these other films to life will be returning for A Quiet Storm, including producer Aaron Rushin, cinematographer Jake Springfield, and composer Tom McLaughlin.
THE PLEA:
I believe we can make a really good film from this script. If after reading my proposal and reviewing our previous work you agree, I hope you can contribute to our cause. This campaign will continue through late August, so if you're unsure about it at this moment, take some time to ruminate... And please spread the word about A Quiet Storm to anyone else you know who might be interested in helping to fund it.
Thanks a million,
Jason Affolder
