Summary:
Introduction taken directly from the book 'Beyond our Trauma-A self-guided approach to trauma recovery'
"We are living in complex times and we are highly complex beings. That being said, some of our greatest challenges in maintaining a semblance of peace and tranquility are often directly related to how we respond to trauma. Oftentimes our maladaptive behavior leads to a victim complex, alcohol or substance abuse and isolation from any meaningful relationships. It can manifest in what seems to be a never ending downward spiral.
If you’re ready to start manifesting something healthy then I invite you to begin a journey of self discovery. Learning a new way to view the world, especially as it relates to our personal experiences with traumatic events, can offer a significant amount of relief. I will warn you now, that it won’t be easy but it certainly will be worth the effort.
Having spent almost a decade as an addictions counselor and over half my life on a personal journey of discovery, I’ve identified many patterns of behavior in myself and others that can be beneficial or detrimental. Most of my observations have been validated by clinicians, philosophers and spiritual advisors in various formats. If anything you find in this book strikes a chord with you, good or bad, I encourage you to research that topic on your own. Don’t just take my word for it.
This journey will challenge you, perhaps even everything you think you know about yourself .However, if you’re reading this book, you’re most likely ready to start feeling something different. You can be free of the fear, guilt or shame that has been weighing you down. If you’re willing to be honest.
My personal story includes being raised in a highly dysfunctional home, childhood abuse (physical, emotional and sexual), being held hostage and many other moral injuries that I no longer feel the compulsion to occupy my thoughts with. The point is, I have found freedom. I have a sense of peace in my life and I now feel a spiritual connection to my existence. Many other people have experienced a similar relief from their traumatic pasts.
If you choose to take this path, of being painfully honest with yourself, you too can become whole again. You will have a deep knowledge and understanding of yourself and the world around you. You will begin to see how you fit in the world and you will begin to welcome others into this newfound serenity.
Don’t put it off any longer. Take that next step into becoming your true self. Learn what it really means to be authentic. Embrace the possibility of loving yourself unconditionally.
Now is the time! Join me and so many others who have made peace with their past."

The Impact
This book will fill a much-needed void in our society. Due to the isolating nature trauma inflicts on humans, it is often difficult to connect with meaningful sources of relief. Mental health is historically under-funded and overlooked by our society. Having a self-guided resource can help so many find hope.
