Short Summary
My name is Steve McKenzie and I am passionate about the homeless in Chicago. I work downtown and connect with them every day on my way to work. In the course of these interactions, I’ve discovered some amazing people. Willie Barbee is one of those people. He is currently homeless, but he loves to sing for commuters on their way to work. He is a wonderful soul. My goal for this campaign is to make Willie some money so he doesn’t have to sleep in the shelter AND to make Willie feel loved by all of us!
What We Need & What You Get
I would like to raise at least $500 with this campaign. The "digital download" of the song requires no cost to produce. The CDs will cost between $2 and $2.50 to produce, with the benefit being that any extra CDs that aren't sold Willie can sell himself. Plus, the CD will be a tangible reminder of Willie and others experiencing homelessness that people care about them and that there is hope. The song has already been recorded and the disc artwork has been created, so once the campaign ends we'll be able to send our project to the CD replication company right away.
The Impact
You will change Willie's life. Even if all we do is meet the $500 goal, Willie will have money in his pocket and the realization that he is loved by all of us. The last campaign I began helped a homeless author publish a book. So I know we can do this...
Risks & Challenges
Given the simplicity of this project (a one song CD)/digital download, there really is only one risk and that is that the disc replication company takes longer than expected to produce the CD (which is highly unlikely)
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you can't give, you can still make Willie's dream come true--simply share this project with like-minded folks and others you know who might be interested.
