About the Story

ABISMOL is a psychological horror film following the story of a girl with an obsession with glamour. Coping with depression and the mediocrity of every day life, she engages in seemingly innocent, but impulsive and addictive behaviors that spiral out of control. When her problems manifest before her physically, in the form of a man in latex, her dreams become a nightmare, and she begins to realize no matter how far she runs, her problems will always be one step behind.

About the Project

The film is a 30 minute short film and senior thesis project with a heavy emphasis on aesthetic and production design. Highly visual, the project is dialog free, relying on the visual aspects of the film to tell the story. The imagery can be described as dreamlike, dynamic and fantastical. With a strong contrast between femininity and innocence with fetishism and darkness, the film brings the aesthetic Sebastian Columbine is best known for onto the screen.

Risks & Challenges

"Due to the growing restrictiveness of Youtube, my ability to distribute the film to my established audience after it’s been produced will be limited, and I will not be able to monetize the film. This means I have no ability to use future returns for as leverage when producing the project, so meeting the budget is extremely important.

Also, small productions often rely on paying members of a production little or nothing at all. I think It’s important to compensate all artists and crew members properly because that’s simply what everyone deserves, and it will help ensure everyone’s commitment, which will ultimately lead to greater success of the film and a happier crew."

About the Director

"I’m Sebastian Columbine, and my greatest goal is to become a recognized filmmaker within the horror genre. My senior thesis is a defining moment in my education and my career, by supporting this project, you’re giving me the opportunity to have my voice heard as a feminine filmmaker in an industry where only 8% of directors are nonmen. You’re giving me the opportunity to produce unique films, prove my years of study and hopefully take the next step in growing what the horror genre could be. With Abismol, I seek to present a deeply personal story from a uniquely feminine perspective, while exploring and expressing asexual sexuality in a unique and tangible way."
