We’re Adwoa Buadu and Amy Addo, and we are 11th grade students. We are children of parents born in Ghana. We have learned about the Ghana Parents Association for Childhood Cancers (GHAPACC), and would like to help this cause. The mission of GHAPACC is
1) to contribute to the health needs of children with cancer and other life threatening blood disorders
2) to contribute to the needs of families of these children.
Many childhood cancers can be treated, however a large number of children in Ghana with life threatening illnesses do not receive treatment and die. This largely results from families’ inability to pay for cancer treatment and lack of alternative resources to fund treatment. When families choose to obtain treatment for their children, a parent typically travels to the cancer center (Korle bu hospital, Accra) with the sick child. The long duration of treatment creates a situation where a parent is away from the rest of the family and is unable to work during this time. Financial resources and source of livelihood for the families suffer at this time.
With your contribution, we can
1) Save the lives of many children who die from treatable life threatening illnesses.
2) Provide financial resources for parents while they care for these sick children
3) Help buy mattresses for mothers to sleep on while they stay with their sick children in hospital.
4) Help build an affordable hostel near a cancer center for parents of sick children.
