Short Summary
Hi! I'm Sam and I've been running small scale games since I was 16. Two years ago I helped run plot for Mystwood, one of the largest games in Maine, and I'll be running plot for Mystwood again this year. I've been playing in various LARPs since 2016. I absolutely adore the Maine LARP community, and am excited to run a game for this community.
Around two years ago I began fiddling with the idea of a Fae LARP. It started with some notes on Fae Types on my phone and the vague idea of in-game actions leveling a character up. Quickly, it morphed into my main project. At this point the rulebook is complete (excepting the changes that'll come after the playtest in August and illustrations). The rulebook can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1toGD5Nbq8UC...
Officially starting in 2025, Aetherim will run for 4 years. There will be 3 events a year. We're planning on sticking to 1 day events. (As of right now I'm handling the plot and running of the game mostly on my own. I want to be realistic with how much I can do!). Each event will involve some role play, some combat, and some amount of puzzles. We plan on 2 hours per event of Court Time, free to play time with one big battle and a large amount of role play. There will be a focus of cooperative play.
What We Need & What You Get
When I was running games for my school club, costuming was my wardrobe and part of the costume closet from home. We didn't really have props and tags were all handwritten. Which is fine when a game is like 5-10 friends in the woods behind school. For Aetherim, I'm hoping to have this game have a production value on par with the other games currently running at MASI. That means money for costumes, props, and decorations in town.
Currency will be made with sealing wax and fabric, and the level 3 crafting system will be digital. There will be tags, and 12 Wells scattered around the site. The Hunting Station, Gathering Station, and Mask Station will all have unique props. At least 10 face characters will have unique costumes, and each of the 5 Realms and 3 Eras will have generic costuming that any NPC will be able to wear.
If we don't reach our funding goal, funding will go to these, in order
- Props necessary for the mechanics of the game
- Generic NPC costuming
- Face NPC costuming
- Additional aesthetic props and town decor
Risks & Challenges
The MASI site is free to host a game at, so even if we raise no money we will still run the game. The money from the Indiegogo is to bring the game to the local aesthetic standard.
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you can't support us financially, we would appreciate anyone sharing the Indiegogo campaign, interacting with our socials, or coming to play the game!
