The Why
RENRA wants to make a positive impact by alleviating poverty around the world through sustainable means. One of the best ways to reduce poverty is by educating women in impoverished regions.
The How
African Solar will provide MWEDO Girls Secondary School with enough solar energy to power a dorm, in turn, maximizing the education given to these students. The dorm will consist of 20 rooms with 4 girls in each room, thus providing electricity to more than 70 girls.
The Ask
RENRA is asking for 5K to help make this come true. We have a solar panel sponsor who will ship them to Arusha, we have our team ready to go, and we have 1.5K for the power inverter. All that's left is the means of transportation to get us there, with round-trip flight tickets costing approximately $1,600 per person. We need your help to make this happen.
The (Implementation+Financial) Plan
The Details (Background)
After being recognized by the Minister of Education of Tanzania, the school began early 2011 with over 100 students. The school accommodates ever rising demands for education amongst Maasai girls and young women offering sciences and business learning including arts and cultural studies. Almost all the students are boarders since most of them come from far to reach and underserved communities. The school enables girls to access formal education opportunity while engaging themselves in other technical skills including learning handmade products and continuing indigenous knowledge. In January 2012, MWEDO Girls Secondary School has 130 students, 10 teachers and 7other personnel. The school is in the continuous process of growing and improving. The new computer lab and library are still in need of books, tablets and computers; sports grounds, new dormitories and teachers’ housing are waiting their turn to be built.
