The album, with the working title "CALLS" , will contain snippets of my phone calls with musicians and friends during the creative process.
During the creation of each album, I create a circle of people to whom I send my ideas. We then get on the phone together and talk about our feelings about a particular record and concept. These are either friends or musicians I collaborate with.
I went through a period of frustration during the making of the "Behind The Frozen Window" EP, where I read Valery Kupka's poems with my daughter. It was unusual for me to use my voice in my music. It created mixed opinions among friends, and I endlessly re-recorded my readings of the poems.
I recorded some parts of the phone calls (with just my voice) and decided to set them to music. In doing so, I'm channeling a period of frustration, but also support, directly into the music.
The result is an album with what I hope is a unique concept, one where the musician as author fully becomes a piece of music himself.. The album also offers a glimpse inside the "kitchen", an insight into how my ideas are born.
Art is born out of pain ...
Erik Truffaz, Paolo Raineri, Arve Henriksen, Marco Minnemann and other guests will be featured on the album.
The money will be used for mixing and mastering the audio. Production of graphic design and limited edition CD.
I also plan to release the album digitally (in full quality on my website) and on all streaming platforms.
“I was floored by David’s guitar solo on Steven Wilson’s “Detonation”. Why? I’d never heard anything like it before. Such bite. Cocky! I just knew I had to work with him, and I’m proud to say that I now have. David is in a league of his own and in the vanguard of a new generation of exciting inspired musicians.”” - Nad Sylvan (Steve Hackett)
“I love the way he approaches music/guitar playing, because I am not able to recognize what style he actually plays. It's a very special style containing elements of rock, jazz and avant-garde music and even of electronic music. It's great. I consider him a genuine musician of the 21st century.” — Steven Wilson /Porcupine Tree/
"David in particular is one of the most innovative and driven young guitarists on the scene today. An interesting combination of Eastern European classical influences, Jazz, ambient, techno, IDM, trippy heavy blues rock mixed with eastern folk styles, Played on a homemade guitar through a quirky combination of pedals and effects he attains a one-of-a-kind sound. I know critics often like to put music into with David's music that's very difficult to do. " — Pat Mastelotto /KING CRIMSON, Mr Mister, .../
“I like David Kollar as a musician, also because he is close to rock. I was a fan of rock myself and King Crimson in particular. But David is also close to ambient music and I've always liked Brian Eno for example. He's a very talented young musician. He just sent me an excellent new rock track for his album Sculpting in Time. He has a great sense of good sound and space.” — Erik Truffaz
"David is a hard working musician, presenting exciting sounds and orchestrations on a long list of releases and projects. I heard this talent in Prague- Inspiring energy to me."” — Arve Henriksen /SuperSilent, David Sylvian/, ...
“"It's not an easy thing to develop a fresh and unique approach to such a popular and well worn instrument as the guitar, but David Kollar certainly manages to bring something new to the table, having both a creative use of effects and also an effective sensibility of where and how to use them. He's capable of extreme restraint, but he also clearly knows how to let rip, as evidenced with the mighty Komara, in short, he's a rare and deadly combination."” — Colin Edwin /Porcupine Tree/
“I’ve really enjoyed your playing these last few gigs, you have a refreshing and unusual style. ”
— Nick Beggs /Steve Hacket, John Mitchel,.../
“David’s sonic command of his guitar is in full force on Sculpting in Time. He jumps from film score paintings to heavy rock assaults with ease, everytime creating something very unique with his guitars. There’s so much to uncover with repeated listenings. Love it!” — John Van Tongeren /Tony Williams, Hans Zimmer, Jeff Beck /
