What is Algiers20xx?
"One crazy and brilliant urban project at a time!"
Here is how our approach was presented, for the first time in the media. Sihem and I have come a long way since then and today we are fully engaged in Algiers20xx, the first chapter of what will be YourCity20xx tomorrow. It is an international ideas competition open to young professionals and students under 30, from all disciplines and all around the world. It is a major project because it will give voice, and pave the way, to youth in the imagination and construction of their/our cities of tomorrow. It is a multidisciplinary, transversal and participatory project.
We are Architects, Urbanists and Optimists! Our idea, ambition and call for participation/contribution are simple: It is an urban vision above all, followed by a citizen initiative, thought and supported by a multidisciplinary collective composed of passionate and talented men and women from diverse horizons, with as common denominator, this immeasurable love for Algiers, and tomorrow: You, and all of us, with YourCity20xx!
What are the challenges?
Today Algiers, tomorrow Your City. Urban design/planning tools can no longer be what they are today, while everything is accelerating, including the "time" of Architecture, so that of the city too. Everything is shared, reinvented, (de)constructed, almost daily. We want to anticipate these upcoming issues by giving young creative minds, with disruptive ideas, international visibility by offering them an internationally renowned jury.
