The story follows 28-year-old Scott, a man living with depression and deep rooted anger problems. When Scott breaks the law, he is forced to wear an electronic monitoring device in the form of an ankle tag. He is subsequently required to move into the caravan on his mum, Linda's, drive. It is here that he discovers his mum has a new partner, Mag, who in turn comes with her son, 17-year-old Timothy, a confident boy with high functioning autism.
In this pilot episode we explore the early stages of the friendship that will evolve between Scott and Timothy.
Who are They?
Scott
Scott 28, distanced himself from his family 8 years ago. Scott is suffering from depression and an incident at work means that he is now placed under curfew. With nothing in his life, Scott is forced to live out his curfew back in Liverpool, with his mum and her new family. Desperately lonely, Scott's abrasive nature further isolates him from the world, even with so many people trying to get through to him. He is snarky, defensive but also very sensitive.
Timothy
Timothy, 17, was diagnosed with high functioning autism at 4. He didn’t speak until he was 5 and now speaks in stunted sentences unless mimicking or quoting someone else. He has a love for science and everything to do with space. He labels and organises all of his tools for stargazing. He is very polite, as he has been taught to be, and abides by most rules. He is loyal and friendly and while not being a very good conversationalist, he is a great listener. Timothy and his family have learnt how to live with his autism, even if the rest of the world hasn't.
Linda
Linda is 50 years old. She had Scott when she was 22. She married his Father at 18 and divorced him at 43. She is in a long term relationship with Mag whom she has known for 15 years. Linda leads a simple life. She enjoys cooking and gardening and the occasional game of tennis, she works as a nurse at the local GPs. She gets on with Timothy extremely well and is determined to reconnect with Scott.
Mag
Mag is 48. She was a single mother until her and Linda became partners. She adores Timothy and can be overly sensitive when it comes to him. She also enjoys cooking and works as a secretary at a small law firm.
