Overview
"An actor...is an actor...is an actor" is a one time stage experience that I've been working on for a long time now. I'm so close to the opening date (which is planned for early December) and I need just one last push to make this one man show a reality. This is where you come in! No matter if it's $1 or just a share on your social media profiles, your generosity will help in a huge way to bring this project to life! Thank you!

Short Summary

"An actor...is an actor...is an actor" was written and performed for the first time by Zijah Sokolovic back in 1978 and has since then been performed by him for over 30 years and in over 20 different countries. It is considered one of the most successful one man shows in Europe and it has been translated to several languages. Performed for the first time in New York in 1991 this one man show returns again for a short run in one of the greatest cities on Earth.

The show focuses on the part of the "actor" in today's show business and the struggles one has to overcome in order to be successful. It is divided into two parts in which the actor interacts with the audience, reflects on his past and present experiences and tries to find meaning in the art of acting.

Performed and directed by Almir Kurtic the play is in it's final stages and almost ready to be shown to the public. Since it's an independent production we are in need for additional funding which would cover venue costs and marketing materials.

The Writer

Zijah Sokolovic (born 1950 in Sarajevo, FPR Yugoslavia) is a Bosnian actor, writer and director who lives, acts and directs in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. He is a director of Theaterland in Salzburg, professor in Bruckner Konservatorium in Linz, artistic director of Dežela gledališča theatre in Ljubljana and artistic project leader for Dramatic society, Dramatično društvo, but also directs plays in Zagreb. He is most known for his one man shows "An Actor...is an Actor...is an Actor", "Cabares Cabarei" and many more. Working in stage and TV/Film for over 40 years, Zijah Sokolovic is considered one of the most acclaimed actors/writers/directors of the European region.

The Performer

Almir Kurtic is an actor from Bosnia and Herzegovina currently attending The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Acting in 2014 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the class of acclaimed actress Selma Alispahic. In 2016 Almir was awarded the Eleonora Duse Scholarship at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute where he's currently finishing his two year conservatory in Method Acting. Almir's stage work expands over 7 years and ranges from classic plays ("The Odyssey", "Timon of Athens", "Don Quixote") to contemporary works ("Unity 1918", "The Motherfucker with The Hat") and many more. He can be seen in the upcoming production of "Ajax in Iraq" which will run at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute from November 9th.

What We Need & What You Get

As mentioned above, we're trying to raise $1300 in order to cover the rehearsal space costs and the cost of the venue where the show is going to be performed. Also a lot of the funds would go into covering marketing material costs.

The Impact

Now, the show is happening regardless of the funds raised, even if it means that it'll be performed on the street, it will happen! Your contribution would mean that the audience would have a seat to sit on and that the actor would have lights to shine on him. Last but not least, the amount of funds raised would determine the price of admission which could potentially be free. Theatre should be accessible to everyone!
