Elissa's senior capstone is a narrative short film titled "An Owl’s Whistle." It's a script she has been working on for a few semesters now and the story centers around Lacy, a college student, who begins experiencing paranormal phenomena as she disregards certain cultural taboos of her Paiute heritage. Elissa wrote the script based on her cultural background and will be directing the production this spring. This production not only benefits Elissa in her film-making career but also the crew made up of fellow students under Utah Tech University's Digital Film program.
Elissa aims to show the various skills she has learned throughout her years at Utah Tech University, as well as those of her crew. Next, she wanted to create and tell a story that people like her could relate to. She has always wanted to tell stories and now has the opportunity to do so with others as passionate as her. Her main motive is to foster audience engagement with her work.
To bring Elissa's story to life we need the help of our community. Luckily, being a part of Utah Tech's Digital Film program we have access to industry-level equipment that would've cost thousands to source. We still need help in funding for expendables in our Grip & Electric department such as gaff tape, carpenter tape, etc. Our production will be art-heavy as we would like to incorporate motifs from Elissa's Native American culture to fill the world of the film. With proper funding, the art team will be able to source different props, set decorations, and wardrobes that further immerse the audience into the film. Lastly, it is important to make sure we have the funding to keep our crew taken care of and well-fed throughout production. With your help we will be able to make Elissa's film a reality.
