Our Story
In 2010, our founder Steffen Johnson, joined the United States Army and shipped from his hometown of Rehoboth, MA to Fort Riley, Kansas. In 2012 Steffen was deployed from Fort Riley, Kansas to serve on an overseas tour in Afghanistan. While pulling guard and having a conversation with one of his buddies, he was asked “what do you want to do after the Army?”. Steffen’s response to this question is what sparked the dream of opening a community-based brewery back in his hometown. Shortly after Steffen’s return he began discussing his dream of going professional with his high school buddy Dan DiRienzo.
Over the following years, Steffen and Dan began to brew and develop recipes while continuing to pursue the dream of one day going commercial with their passion project. After years of searching for the perfect place to call Anawan Brewing Company home, they finally found a place. All the way back in 2012 when Steffen said he wanted “to open a brewery” he had his hometown of Rehoboth, MA in mind as to where he wanted to open. With your help we can bring our dream of over 8 years to fruition in the beautiful, historic town of Rehoboth, MA!
Award Winning Beer
Over the several years that Steffen and Dan have been brewing together they have received multiple medals, awards, and recognition for their quality handcrafted beers. With over 75+ unique beer recipes there is bound to be a beer that everyone can enjoy. ABC is committed to their motto of being “Independent, Handcrafted, and Local”.
From Homebrewing to Commercial
While homebrewing out of our garage has been fun, we are unable to get the beer out to the public. This second, and final campaign will allow us to gather the funds allowing us to open a 1600 square foot brewery and taproom in Rehoboth, MA. We believe through the help of supporters like you we will be able to put Rehoboth on the map as a craft beer destination for years to come.
Community-Based Brewery
The Rehoboth taproom will not only be a place for customers to enjoy beer on-site or to go, but it will be an asset to the town as well. From the beginning of our dream we always stood by the saying of having what we call a “community-based brewery’. To us a community-based brewery is one that will support local business and organizations all through the love of craft beer. We are dedicated to having a positive impact on the community and staying true to our motto of being “Independent, Handcrafted and Local”.
