A socially anxious theatre student is faced with unwanted attention from a castmate in her first college play.

Character-driven and deeply atmospheric, ANDY aims to bring viewers into the frenzy, isolation, and vulnerability of a life marked by social anxiety. Additionally, it explores the effects of obsession, stalking, and manipulation — both in reality and online.

One of my main goals for this production is to portray moments of discomfort that may not sound particularly bad on paper, but can feel disturbing — even traumatic — when experienced. The film will focus on more subtle, elusive behaviors that many would classify as part of a social "grey area" — ones that are often left unexamined.

This story is very personal to me — its premise is loosely based on an experience I had during my own freshman year of college, while many of its major themes represent struggles I've dealt with for much of my life. I intend to handle this film's subject matter with great care and have brought on a small team of very talented individuals who will help bring this project to the next level.

I have spent my time in college developing my own artistic voice and strengthening my technical skillset, which I really believe will be evident in this film. I've also been inspired stylistically by many works that realistically portray anxiety — films like Eighth Grade, Whiplash, Punch-Drunk Love, and Krisha. I will be utilizing all of what I've learned over the past number of years to craft a film that is truly important to me and fulfills a unique, compelling vision.

*Approximate runtime: 15-20 minutes.

About the Team

Sean Bannon - Writer/Director/Editor

Sean Bannon is a writer, director, and actor from Stow, Massachusetts. He is currently a senior film production student at Emerson College in Boston. He has written and directed numerous short films, including IRONIUS, ThroupleThe Summertime Diaries, and Yankee Swap.

A proud member of the RareWorks Theatre Company Advisory Board, he has also acted in several student theatre productions at Emerson, including Moon Walk, which ran at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He received an EVVY Award for his performance as Lucas in Mercutio Troupe's 2017 production of Surprise Party

Meghan Dresdner Sarah

Meghan Dresdner is a junior BFA Theatre & Performance major at Emerson College. Past credits include AMS in 10 out of 12 (EmStage), Trish in Marty and Tad Are Living! (RareWorks), and Mae in Tuck Everlasting (Kidding Around). She has also worked as the Assistant Director for Women Who Weave (Kidding Around) and Dorian Gray (Full Fathom), as well as the Dramaturg for American Ant Motel and The Painted Handgun (Mercutio).

She hopes you consider contributing to ANDY to help tell this impactful story.

Miles Millikan - Andy

Miles is a junior Acting B.F.A. major at Emerson College. He is a proud member of Mercutio Troupe and most recently acted in Emerson Stage's The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (Judas). Other credits include Ipseity (Samson), Claustrophile (Doc), And Then Came Tango (Guapo), and Moon Walk (Alex), which finished a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last summer.

"I am really in love with collaborative community art builds, and the feeling of being a part of a group that is telling a story from a place of heart and care and play is the greatest feeling in the world to me."

All other information can be found at milesmillikan.com.

Robson Trudgill - Camera/G&E

Robson Trudgill is a filmmaker, writer, and visual artist from Boulder, Colorado. He is currently getting a BFA in Media Arts Production from Emerson College. He has had his work screened at Boulder International Film Festival and 5 Point Film Festival.

He spent much of his time in high school working on theatre productions, and feels that Sean’s script really captures that world and the personal dynamics within it.

Mason Guevara - Composer

Mason Guevara, known professionally as Omega, is an Atlanta-based composer. He is the founder of the music collective Polyrhythmium and co-founder of the media company Shutterstinct.

While his projects are hardly bound to any one genre, the majority of his releases consist of compositions created from home-made cassette tape loops, field recordings, samples, and a number of experiments with instruments and objects, creating vast emotive soundscapes which blend elements of ambient, industrial, noise, classical, hip-hop, and metal music.

Where Your Money Goes

I understand that $2,500 is a lot of money — however, this figure was arrived at after careful consideration of the many factors necessary for a successful production. Here is a more detailed breakdown of where your donations will be going:

Equipment - While some of our equipment will be covered by either personal inventory or Emerson's Equipment Distribution Center, part of the budget will go towards a few specific pieces of gear that will help carry out the film's vision for the best price. My goal is to achieve a high production value relative to our scale so that we can make a solid piece of work that is ready to be submitted to film festivals. In order to do this, we'll be renting a Panasonic GH5 (with some high-quality lenses) and utilizing a professional microphone that will allow this film to look and sound as great as it can.

Paying people for their work - Even though this is a student film, I feel that it is important that the main cast and crew members will be paid for their work and time. So often in thesis films, this element is forgone in favor of other expenses. Our production is fortunate enough to have certain resources available for free, and I would love to be able to compensate those on our team.

Music  - An essential part of creating a film's atmosphere is good sound design. I will be working with composer Mason Guevara (Omega) who will create an original score for the film that will heighten its emotional impact and strengthen its tone significantly. Check out some of the perks for more info about the soundtrack!

Festival submissions - Film festival submissions can get pricey, especially as deadlines approach. The more funds we have for festival submissions, the more festivals we can submit to, which will hopefully expose our film to audiences that might not have found it otherwise.

Craft services (food) - Feeding the cast and crew is a crucial aspect of successfully producing a film. Even though we'll be dealing with relatively short-term shoots, it's important to keep everyone well-fed just out of respect for one another.
