Our Story
"Ariel" is a NYU thesis film about a modern family and a young woman who must figure out where she fits within it. On the day of her much-anticipated clarinet recital, fourteen-year-old Ariel meets someone she didn't expect - her mother's boyfriend. Over the course of one day, she starts to tackle the big questions that come attached to this new relationship. "Ariel" is a film about belonging, change, and the loneliness of growing up.
The Impact
By telling Ariel's story, we aim to capture the experience of being a young adult. Ariel feels caught in between childhood and adulthood and torn between different family relationships. She faces certain harsh realities that family members concealed from her in the past, perhaps because they thought she was too young to comprehend them. "Ariel" is a glimpse into a moment of upheaval. It's that tumultuous point in time when we begin to question what we believed was true, especially about the people closest to us.
What We Need
Over the past few weeks, our producing team has made lots of progress with location scouting, casting and assembling crew. Now we need your help! We still need to raise at least $1500 for our shoot in March. The success of this film depends on your support. While we have carefully crafted our budget to prevent any unnecessary fees, several key expenses cannot be omitted, such as:
On-set meals for cast and crew (who are all working for free!)
Transportation for equipment (renting a truck)
Parking and gas for equipment truck
Buying props and costumes
External hard drives (for storing digital footage)
Insurance policy
You can have an integral role in advancing the careers of a passionate group of young filmmakers.
