After adding four more artists and several photos to the book, it is now 140 pages, plus cover—26 more pages than it originally had. As a result I need to raise a few more bucks! Funds exceeding the goal (knock on wood) will be applied to a larger quantity of books printed, marketing and distribution of the book, and the Citizens Artist Collective community programs described below. Now is a great time to contribute $40 and receive your own copy of the book!

Citizens Warehouse

Citizens Warehouse is in danger of being lost, which would be a tremendous shame as the community of artists here would be displaced, as well as BICAS and their Art Annex. Currently, Citizens Warehouse offers affordable studio space to these artists which, if lost, would negatively impact the arts community—specifically, the Tucson Historic Warehouse Arts District.

The Historic Warehouse Arts District in downtown Tucson is an eclectic, thriving and growing community. Citizens Warehouse, a cornerstone to this community, is home to 24 artists of varied mediums and disciplines. For the past few months I have been working on this art book featuring the artists of Citizens Warehouse—and it is now ready to go to the printer!

About the Book

The primary purpose of the book is to support and give exposure to the artists in Citizens Warehouse. It showcases select works from the artists, amounting to more than 150 full color images of paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, metal work, furnishings, and multi-media art. There are also photographs to illustrate the culture of the warehouse from events, excursions and figure drawing sessions. It is a perfect bound art book measuring 8"x10" closed, with a soft cover, 140 pages in length.

The book features:

  • Foreword by Julie Sasse, Chief Curator and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Tucson Musuem of Art.
  • An Introduction by author Dennis Herrick.
  • History of the Tucson Historic Warehouse District and the Citizens Warehouse with essays by Dave Devine, David Aguirre and Poster Frost Mirto, Inc.
  • A map of the Historic Warehouse District from the City of Tucson Historic Preservation Office.
  • Essays about Citizens Artist Collective (CAC), Bicycle Inter-Community Art and Salvage (BICAS), and Warehouse Arts Management Organization (WAMO).
  • Twenty-four artists from Citizens Warehouse, each artist having four pages featuring their bios and select, full-color images of their work.
  • Photographs from in and around the artist studios and the warehouse.

Book Sales

All money generated from the sales of this book after printing will be donated to funds for maintenance and repairs on the building, further marketing and promotion of the artists who work here, community programs such as field trips and workshops for students, and programs to help protect the warehouse—insuring it remain a vital part of the Arts District Community.

Our Deadline

This campaign only goes through the end of the month. And the sooner the goal is reached, the more likely we will be able to have the book ready for the Spring Open Studio Tour—which would be awesome. Please contribute today!

Note

If you participated in the first fundraising campaign and see a perk offered here that you would like, please feel free to contribute the additional amount and your perk will be converted. For example, if you contributed $200 for the Signature Edition last time but would like the Signature Edition plus 3 prints offered here, simply contribute $125 and you will also receive the prints.

Thank you in advance for your interest in and support of this project!
