Our founder started Downunder toys in 1994, with the goal to raise the standard, and make better products.
“I became a nerd - I love the silicone rubbers.
I know very little about marketing. I just want to make the best product that delivers what it’s meant to. It has been my goal to make women happy, while enhancing their health and their relationships.” - JD

The Impact
We were shocked to learn that the cost of viagra is often subsidised, demonstrating that sexual health is important. To prioritise wellbeing is admirable, and we believe it is important for women to maintain their sexual health too, but we don’t think it can happen with a pill.
Our research suggests that women really respond best when they choose the time and place for sexual health activities. AVA lets us do just that.
AVA is not fast fashion, her ergonomic handle will outlast the rest allowing users to enjoy new pure silicone profiles, so you and your partner can enjoy a variety of sensations. We will release new shapes somewhat seasonally, based on customer feedback, something we have always done.
We use ethical manufacturing to support a living wage making a good product for a fair price.
In Australia, Jelly and rubber toys, for use by women, are not regulated by health and safety standards. We think they should be, as some softened plastics may be carcinogenic or allow the growth of bacteria. Until then, we meet higher standards, set elsewhere.
The EU has set safety standards for the use of these materials and the non-porous, hypoallergenic body safe silicone, is the only material we recommend being inserted into your body and it is what we use, in the manufacture of our products.
Ava is obviously designed by women, it just feels too good not to be. As women, we understand that context plays a big role in being satisfied. Enjoy on your terms when you choose, alone or together.
As artisan manufacturers we have commercialised over 40 unique products that we have produced by hand. Changing to mechanised production methods enables us to reach more people, with a consistent high quality, and technologically innovative product.
Risks & Challenges
Because we have years of experience in manufacturing, we have comprehensively tested prototypes of AVA so there is little chance of unforeseen problems arising. We have worked closely and proactively with our partners to ensure AVA will meet our clients' needs.
We have already spent over $200,000. to ensure every aspect of the design is ready for manufacture, and we need you to help us get AVA into the world.
