THE HISTORY
B-Boy Blues * The Play made its debut as the closing show during the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) in New York in March of last year. Tickets sold out in three days, nearly a month before the Festival began—the first time this happened in the Festival's eleven-year history. The play went on to win the DUTF's Audience Award.
Because of popular demand, the DUTF brought the show back for their Encore series in early June—and those three Equity showcases also sold out months before the performance dates. And the third time was definitely the charm for the show's DC premiere at Howard University's 300-plus seat Ira Aldridge Theater: the show become only the second in the DC Black Theatre Festival's history to sell out, and the first to do it online. But once wasn't enough for DC: calls to bring the show back were answered by Al Sura, Inc., which co-produced the sold out encore at the Heritage Center in October.
And the bitter vortex temps and threat of snow didn't stop Philly from showing us a lot of brotherly (and sisterly) love and giving us another nearly sold out performance at the Painted Bride Art Center in February (and on a Tuesday night)!
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!
The B-Boy Blues * The Play web home has been flooded with requests (well, more like demands!) for us to come to the ATL for over a year—and, now, you have the power to make it happen! Your contribution will help cover round trip airfare from New York, lodging, and salaries for a company of 13; theater rental, insurance, and labor costs; rehearsal studio booking; production fees and taxes; and miscellaneous items (gotta feed the actors!).
You don't have to live in the ATL to support; fans across the country and abroad who pledge will receive joodies like the premiere eBook version of B-Boy Blues or its 20th anniversary edition.
Those that wish to purchase seats for the August 2nd show have a few options:
- First/Second/Third Row Premium Seats or a Special Guest/VIP Package, which can also come with admission to the Official After-Party, a complimentary producer credit, an autographed book, and a behind-the-scenes look at how Raheim & Mitchell's story is brought to life
- Pooquie's Ten-Pack - 10% off 10 tickets / Pooquie's Twenty-Pack - 20% off 20 tickets (if you are interested in purchasing a block of more than 20 tickets, send your inquiry to james.earl.hardy@gmail.com)
- Holiday Special, beginning Memorial Day weekend: 1 General Admission Seat/$38, 2 General Admission Seats/$72, 3 General Admission Seats/$99

[NOTE: Taxes/fees are included in quoted prices, and tickets will be waiting at the box office the evening of the performance under the payee's name.]

THE SYNOPSIS
Opposites do attract. Take Mitchell Crawford, a 30-year-old Ivy-League educated editor of Your World, a newsmagazine for high school students, and Raheim Rivers, a 23-year-old homeboy from Harlem and high school dropout who is a messenger. When Middle Class Boy meets Working Class Boi, the attraction is palpable and explosive. For Mitchell, Raheim is the lean, mean love machine of his dreams, while Mitchell is the willing and convenient compact cutie Raheim can have anytime he wants (and does).
Their lust affair does have some bumps in the road: they clash over using "nigga" as a term of endearment and Raheim's possessive nature, while Mitchell's snobbish, sarcastic best friend, Eugene "Gene" Roberts, and Raheim's child 'hood homie, Derrick "D.C." Carter, pressure them to end it. But, it's clear to Gene, D.C. and everyone else in their circles—Michelle "Michi" Snipes, Your World's receptionist; Barry "B.D." Daniels, Mitchell's ditzy yet delightful BFF; Angel Cortez, Raheim's other homie; and Mrs. Rivers, Raheim's mom—that there's much more than hookin' up going on. Which is why no one is more surprised than they are when they fall in love.
