                                  BABY MILK FOR GAZA’S NEONATES

Gaza Strip is the biggest open air prison in the globe, with a population of over 1.8 million trapped into an area of 360 km2. All borders are closed, no free movement and fishing is possible in the Gaza Sea due to the Israeli navy harasses and the implemented buffer zone areas.

The humanitarian issues have been recently increased after the unstable political situation in Egypt, which has reflected directly on the Gazans by the closure of the Rafah border for long periods and destroying the life line channels by the border which were used to get the main food materials and petrol.

Due to all these ongoing progressive circumstances, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is getting up on the priorities’ pyramid. According to the ministry of Health in Gaza, the stock of medicines in the governmental medical stores has decreased and some of the items have really run out.

The most important section, which I do always focus on in my appeals, is the Children section and related issues. According to the latest statistics released by the Palestinian center bureau of statistics and Ministry of interior - Civil affairs 2013 show that 55,000 neonates were born, 51% were males and 49% were females with a rate of 25.56 births/1,000 population.

Most of these neonates are born with some genetic problems such as lack of Lactose digesting enzyme and vomiting due to abnormal conditions in digestions. “ The lack of this enzyme causes diarrhea and vomiting in the neonates who are depending on breast feeding or baby milk formulas.

They require a special lactose free baby milk formula for at least 4 months after their birth, until their bodies become stronger and can tolerate this problem.

BABY MILK FOR GAZA’S NEONATES appeal will focus on these neonates by providing them the special Lactose Free (LF or AR formula AntiRegurgitation) baby milk formula. The Gaza’s pharmacies have this kind of baby milk of various brands but unfortunately it is too expensive compared to other normal baby milk formulas.

Many families can’t afford to buy this milk, especially those who have twins or more kids. It is also not provided by NGOs or UN medical facilities, but can only be found in the private pharmacies.

This appeal will raise funds to buy the lactose free baby milk formula and distribute it among children hospitals in the Strip.

Calculations

The total amount of the needed baby milk cans are 400-460, with each can costing from 42 to 45 NIS ~ £8

Total amount is: 478 bottles x 8= £3824, plus £378  as a 9% commission the Indiegogo website takes from the total amount if we hit the goal of 4200£ with Flexible funds option.

Gaza’s neonates are our future generation that will grow up to raise and push forward to build Palestine. Please, I’m calling all of you as my brothers and sisters to be together to achieve this goal because I believe in unity and the power of the people.

If you can’t afford, we understand, but please share and let others help through you. God rewards us all for the good deeds and forgive us for the bad ones. Amen
