Hi folks…I don’t do this often, but today I’m calling out for your HELP with something I’ve been working on. As you might know, I’ve been living in a very special place as of late…Bali. And for me, what makes Bali so special is the Balinese people themselves. They are the most reverent, honorable, gentle, gracious, and humble people that I’ve ever met. I love being there and being their humble guest.

In my short time there, I’ve wanted to give back in some way. One day I decided to speak to the head of the village I live in and I posed the question, “How can I help?” The first words out of his mouth were, “The school. They need the most help.”

The school is the only one in our small village and serves 100, K-5 students. I then set up a meeting with the head of the school and met with several teachers to find out what their biggest needs were. To my surprise, the most needed item was chalk! If this was their situation, I wondered what other vital needs the school would have. I proceeded to inventory all the items that were in need. They consisted of general supplies like writing instruments, notebooks, chalk, chalkboards, musical instruments (they have one old keyboard that no longer works), PE supplies (they have only one soccer ball for all 100 students), biology models, teachers’ rulers, art supplies, classroom maps, etc. etc. etc.

After making the list, the village head and myself went to the nearest big town and priced out all the items necessary to supply each child and classroom with what they needed for the rest of the year and hopefully some of next school year.  The cost came out to be $5000 for all necessary and immediate supplies. This amount will provide what’s necessary now, but won’t get them through the next school year. This will essential buy supplies for 150 students, which gives them a 50% buffer on supplies. But ideally, I would raise $10,000 which would get them through the entire next school year!

I return to Bali on 12/17 and will be purchasing these items myself and delivering them to the school. All funds go 100% directly to buy school supplies and I will stay in control of said funds until all items have been purchased and delivered. My ask is that you become part of this project and find it in your heart to donate any funds that you can. If 100 people donate $100, we are there!

I would have loved to get super creative, and make a video and flashy website for this cause, but life lately has left me with little time. But none of that matters in the end. What matters is that these children get the necessary supplies so that they have the same chances that we all want in life. Thank you humbly for helping the children in the village of Nyuh Kuning, Ubud, Bali.
