Overview
This is a story I have wanted to tell for a long time. It is not just my story, but things I have observed throughout my life that I have found poignant and deep. I am not trying to solve world problems with this film, just sharing my observations and also a little of my story. Writer (Story) and Executive Director Laura Coleman

Short Summary

A little about me and some of my inspiration for making this film.

  • This is a passion project for me.   I was born in Boston/Cambridge Massachusetts in 1968.  A few  days before Martin Luther King was shot and killed, just to give you the tone of the times.   My birth mom was living in a hippy commune in Boston and going to BU in the late 60’s and had a fling with my birth dad who was a black man. He was not receptive to her when she told him she was pregnant, so she moved across the bridge to Cambridge and gave me up for adoption.  My adoptive parents had been trying for a while to have kids and decided to look into adoption. At the time, they were told there was a 4 year waiting list for an ALL WHITE  baby, but a baby had just came in (me) whose dad was black, but light skinned and they could easily pass me for full white. And that’s what they did.  Never really knowing where I fit in.  For a while, feeling like I needed to wear a sign to let people know my ethnicity. I either looked white or people just knew my dad was black. It was all in a person's perspective and I felt like I had to fit in their box.   This is not just my story.  This is a bunch of stories wrapped into one.  Things I have experienced and also things I have observed others experiencing throughout my life.

Just some of the Crew

Director / Anthony Penney

Anthony Penney is an Award Winning Director and Actor known for his work on films such as Me Too, Alone, Kept, Onion and BlindED. Anthony has a passion for film and for powerful stories that he believes have the power to change people. Making films with purpose is his goal, and with each film he hopes to reach specific audiences with powerful messages that bring about hope, change, and conversation. His latest film Me Too, was an hour long docudrama that included real life survivors of sexual abuse telling their stories as a way to bring hope to those who have suffered from similar situations. Anthony also has a passion for telling stories that include mental health issues. His short film Alone dealt with the crippling affects of depression, and his short film Onion dealt heavily with personality disorders. Many of his films include metaphors and characters that aren't really there, but act as projections of the main characters thoughts and inner emotions.

Cinematographer / Roberto Agosto

Roberto Agosto is a Tampa-based Director of Photography with over three years' experience in filmmaking.  His works include:  DamAgeD, I Will Treat You , and Award Winning: The Wrong Way Out , to name a few. His equipment is minimal so that he can stay unobtrusive and focus on what's important. Emotion, characters and the details are what he prioritizes. To him, these elements are what make a timeless film.

Budget Breakdown

  •  At least 50%.  if not more,  of this money will go to pay our amazing crew.
  • The budget is shoestring and I'm unable to pay my actors and extras, but DO want to feed them.  40% will go towards making sure I can do this.
  • 10% will go to props needed on set to make this story come to life.

    Impact

I'd like for this movie to touch a lot of people and feedback that I have received thus far, I think it will.  I'm very excited to share this story and film. I would not classify this film as a Hallmark film but quite the contrary.  It was written to get you in your feels and witness blatant racism and subtle racism through the eyes of our protagonist:  Harper.

We have an amazing cast and crew signed on to film the last week in Feb.

Just some of the cast and a crew at table read, photo shoot, and teaser filming on Jan 5.
