Who We Are
The mission
of the New Jersey Chamber Singers is to engage, enrich, and inspire audiences
across New Jersey through performances of high quality music. We are
celebrating our 35th anniversary this year. Founded in 1978 by Dr.
Jeffrey Unger, the New Jersey Chamber Singers (NJCS), an audition only
organization, aimed to provide NJ audiences with quality performances of choral
music written for the small ensemble. NJCS soon emerged as the premier
vocal chamber ensemble of the Jersey Shore and has performed at the American
Choral Directors Association conventions in Baltimore and Philadelphia as well
as the Washington National Cathedral in D.C., Alice Tully Hall and Avery
Fischer Hall in New York City.
More recently, NJCS
has begun to expand its audience beyond the Jersey Shore to encompass the
entire state of New Jersey. We generally perform in smaller, more
intimate spaces because we believe chamber music creates a unique bond between
performers and audience. The ensemble's sensitive artistry, imaginative
concert themes and eclectic repertoire have become the signature of the NJCS
concert experience.
We are passionate
about preserving and conserving art forms and cultural heritage through
public presentation.
We are endeavoring to
raise the funds necessary for our 35th anniversary concert, "A Baroque
Feast." This project aims for the highest level of Baroque period
performance. In order to present audiences with the most authentic
Baroque experience, we have engaged the best and most talented solo artists and
instrumentalists who specialize in Baroque period performance. By helping
us fund this project, you will enable listeners to rediscover history and
constantly seek unexpected inspiration
What We Need
Why $7,500? We are looking for the funds needed to perform our extraordinary Baroque
Feast concert. This concert is a rare
opportunity to hear authentic Baroque music, performed by the NJCS and
exceptionally trained guest artists. Our expected costs for performers of the
highest caliber for 2 concerts include:
·
6 string players: Violin I, Violin2, Viola, Cello, Bass = $2,500
· 3 specialized Baroque vocal soloists (2 sopranos,1 countertenor) =$1,500
·
Rental of a portative organ =$1,000
·
Accoustic-appropriate rental space for 2
concert venues = $600
·
Other miscellaneous costs – including CD
production, programs, travel =$1,900
Our small group, while mighty vocally, has no
paid administrative staff or office overhead.
We are totally supported by volunteers who do all the marketing, graphic
design, planning and Fund Raising.
The Impact
The NJCS has emerged as the premiere vocal chamber ensemble
of New Jersey. The ensemble’s sensitive
artistry, imaginative concert themes and eclectic repertoire have become the
signature of the NJCS concert experience.
We generally perform in smaller, more intimate spaces because we believe
chamber music creates a unique bond between performers and audiences.
It is through the generosity of our sponsors that we
continue to perform, and we are excited to be celebrating our 35th
year!
