Background

“La historia tiene la realidad atroz de una pesadilla; la grandeza del hombre consiste en hacer obras hermosas y durables con la sustancia real de esa pesadilla.”
Octavio Paz

The beauty and peace of home is left behind by millions of immigrants in search of a dream that can quickly become a nightmare. The struggle to make a home in a foreign land is a subject that will need to be explored as long as we live in a world with borders. This film explores the language and culture of a Mexican family on the south side of Chicago.

Many major media companies and ad executives have been trying to cash in on a growing Latino population. But few have actually cared to provide access to the voices from these communities that need to tell their stories and experiences in the US.

What we are doing

We are making a short film, the overall goal is to explore what everyday life is like for an immigrant Mexican family .

The subject specifically captures a moment of a family looking for celebration but instead is  driven to the brink of insanity by poverty, anger, and oppression.

Who we are

I have worked in film and theater in varying capacities for the last ten years. This will be the first time I direct a short film.

The principle cast and crew (Bret Hamilton, cinematographer, Josach , lead actor and myself Rigoberto Gomez-Carmona writer- director) have had our work screened at film festivals and competitions  all over the world including Chicago, Seoul, South Korea , Park City Utah.

With the talent, dedication and experience that we bring to this project we hope to bring this story to the world by submitting it to film festival and be a process of continuing to tell stories that can change the world.

Why we need your help

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Maya Aangelou, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

The raw emotional physicality and language of this story can only be told through cinema. A very expensive medium. So we are asking for you to help us fund this film.

In order for this film to be the absolute best it can be, we will require lenses, light equipment, sound equipment and last but not least food to nourish a very talented and hard working crew. All of the funding we get from you will provide for these essentials. But more importantly your funding will bring this story to the world.

We Thank you for any and all contributions. We appreciate donations, big and small. If you can't donate, please spread the word about Bautismo.
