The Big Ask!
I know that it's not really the done thing to crowdfund in our little ol' d&b scene, but without it, this album won't happen. I'm sure there will be some people that hate the idea, but I'm hoping enough of you like the idea that we can make it happen.
This may come as a suprise to you, but as a business, Spearhead Records is literally only me. Back in 2005 when I started the label, for the first 18 months I didn't even own a computer, let alone have any idea what I was doing or what I'd started. I was living in Ibiza and running things from internet cafe's and a USB stick. Here we are 11 years later and if you have ever ordered anything from the shop, it's been picked, packed and taken to the post office by me. I do everything from a&r to the hoovering and everything in between.
While it may just be me who is employed, I've build some amazing relationships with artists, designers, engineers, promoters, event managers and loads of other people that have totally embraced things and created the wider disfunctional Spearhead family. People who without their hard work and general amazingness Spearhead wouldn't have made it this far.
So why crowdfund for a new BCee album. Well, to be honest with you, without your help, I can't afford to do it.
I want to make this one special, I want to be able to concentrate on songwriting, production and pouring my heart and soul into the music. I have some great vocalists lineup up to write and record with and some other producers ready to collaberate, but regretably it all costs a lot more money than I have.
Just to reassure any loyal fans, if I wanted to be the next Sigma or someone else that you can find on Radio 1, then I'd try and get backing from a major label. But I don't. I want to stick to my roots, keep things rolling and just do what I do best, make drum & bass full of depth and emotion that I hope people can continue to connect to. There are no plans to change what I do, I just want to do it bigger and better than ever before.
Your funding will help me to bring you the biggest and best BCee album yet, and I want as many of you as possible to feel a part of making this one happen. Even if you can't contribute, then just share it on facebook or twitter or whatever you people much younger than me use that's cool!
The funding will cover the vocalists, mastering, manufacture, session musicians, additional production and all of the costs to kick this project off.
I've tried to offer a load of perks that I think you will like or find useful and perhaps you just can't get me to do otherwise and I'm open to offers on anything else. Essentially, just pre-ordering the album as a 'perk 'will really help.
Thanks in advance for your support.
