Who are we?

Arts on the Credit is now entering its fifth year as of April 2016. This show was founded in 2012 by two local Mississauga artisans, Marie Payne and Sue Riley, both with a strong passion for fine art and craft. Arts on the Credit was born in response to the closing of several art galleries in Port Credit. Sue Riley and Marie Payne founded the show to promote and grow the developing arts community.

Arts on the Credit is meant to provide a beautiful setting in which to showcase the finest craft alongside wonderful artwork. Many different media are presented including, amazing pottery, porcelain, glass sculptures, silver and gold jewellery, innovative textile art and paintings employing a variety of materials and techniques.

What We Need

Our campaign depends on your generosity. And this year we have a funding target of $10,000. Why do we need your support? Local art and artists fuel our community. We work very hard to keep art here in beautiful Port Credit, Mississauga. So, whether you're a Mississaugan or you love supporting local art, please contribute and come see our show on April 8, 9 and 10 located at the boutique Waterside Inn Hotel. We want to keep our art and craft here, fuel creativity and develop our community into a strong cultural force.

What You Get

We're very excited this year to announce incredible donations from local artists and artisans. We're grateful for their contributions towards the campaign. When you decide to donate you'll have exclusive access to our unique and amazing perks. You'll absolutely love it. Let's take a look and see, because where's the fun in art if you can't see? And if you come by on April 9 and 10 to Arts on the Credit at the Waterside Inn Hotel you'll get a close look and meet the artists! They work tirelessly to realize the beauty in the craft.

Our first and most exclusive perk is a VIP package for you and a guest to join us at the Arts on the Credit Show.  Enjoy dinner with the artists on the Saturday evening on April 9. It also includes a Saturday night stay at the beautiful Waterside Inn, including breakfast. Perk valued at $2000, if you got deep pockets, you won't regret the boutique hotel experience. And your name added to the sponsor list on our website. Check it out.

The next perk is actually difficult to describe because Sjon de Groot's works are unmatched in talent and passion. Own this unique work titled 'Cherry Beach' an original oil on canvas 24X24 and framed. Only one of it's kind for $1000. Sjon’s work is bold and multi-dimensional.

Up next is an original water colour painting by Sherrill Girard. It's an effervescent, captivating, up close and a visceral experience. Own it at $1000, original and framed.

If you have a love of jewellery you can't miss this opportunity. Fabulous original jewellery, designed and crafted by Jan Kruztelmann, a virtual hug and thanks on social media. At $500 a piece this perk is an investment! We only have four so hurry.

We're not done yet. Annette Seip has generously contributed framed & digital prints. We'll have 10 small framed prints at $250 and 20 digital unframed prints at $75. These are incredible landscape photographs from a talented photographer. Here's a sneak peak! The one on the left is a picture taken at Riverwood Conservancy in Mississauga and the one the right is titled 'Silverwood'.

Check out these incredible art cards by Kristina Heredia! We only have 20 of these and they're going to be gone really fast. Get them now for a small donations of $50.

The last unique perk is donated by Marie Payne. They're handwoven and knit scarves. Who knows? We might have a long winter after all.

Also we have something that everyone would love. The first 50 gets an exclusive mention on our Arts on the Credit website. If that doesn't do it for you get a virtual hug from us. Actually you'll get two if you come to the show! Hugs are free there :)

Our funds directly contribute to our artists. We're keen on fostering and developing arts and crafts through collaborative efforts. And through this we hope to have a successful show with each year. Attendance to our event has grown greatly. If you love art and you wish to be engaged, please contribute and help support local artists.

The Impact

This year we want to highlight a local artist. Meet Tamara Thompson.

Tamara has recently completed her BFA in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University. Currently, Tamara is the Drawing and Painting Fellowship Resident artist at the Living Arts Centre, based in Mississauga, Ontario.

The next generation of art is what we're aiming to cultivate. We don't just want to have art and enjoy it. We want to make a consistent impact on artists. We have shows and venues because a sense of community keeps our art strong. And gives our art community the advantage for more and better opportunities.

Tamara’s practice demonstrates an interest in the moment of translation from film imagery into painting by use of oil and encaustic glazing. Through a time-based process, she reworks film sources that engage ideas of horror and the experience of anxiety into a painting schematic. More specifically, Tamara uses GIFS of people experiencing extreme emotion from film references in order to concentrate on a moment of crisis. The landscapes displayed in the GIFS provide an ungoverned space for the crisis to occur and thus facilitate a mediated reaction between horror and meditation. In an attempt to mimic the movement of the jittering, anxious figures, gestures are slowed down, fragmented and yet monumentalized. As a result, a conversation between realism and abstraction as well as anxiety and calm reflection transpires.

Risks & Challenges

We know that art can be a high stakes game. Every year the value of arts auctioned is breaking world records. At times that leaves very little room for contemporary artists to grow and to have a voice. Arts on the Credit is a show, and it is a medium for many young artists to display their talents. Your contribution influences the continuity of our medium. For our own voice.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you can't donate, that's okay. Please give our campaign a shout. Use the Indiegogo sharing tool, or simply share the URL to your social network. Tell your loved ones and friends about our campaign and come to our show on April. You'll feel the energy of our vibrant art community. Art will be in the air. That's cheesy, but its the truth!
