Who are we?
Arts on the Credit is now entering its
fifth year as of April 2016. This show was founded in 2012 by two local
Mississauga artisans, Marie Payne and Sue Riley, both with a strong passion for
fine art and craft. Arts on the Credit was born in response to the closing of
several art galleries in Port Credit. Sue Riley and Marie Payne founded the
show to promote and grow the developing arts community.

Attendance to our event has grown greatly. If you love art and you wish to be engaged, please contribute and help support local artists.
The Impact
This year we want to highlight a local artist. Meet Tamara Thompson.
Tamara has recently completed her BFA in
Drawing and Painting from OCAD University. Currently, Tamara is the Drawing and
Painting Fellowship Resident artist at the Living Arts Centre, based in
Mississauga, Ontario.

The next generation of art is what we're aiming to cultivate. We don't just want to have art and enjoy it. We want to make a consistent impact on artists. We have shows and venues because a sense of community keeps our art strong. And gives our art community the advantage for more and better opportunities.
Tamara’s practice demonstrates an interest in the moment of
translation from film imagery into painting by use of oil and encaustic
glazing. Through a time-based process, she reworks film sources that
engage ideas of horror and the experience of anxiety into a painting schematic.
More specifically, Tamara uses GIFS of people experiencing extreme
emotion from film references in order to concentrate on a moment of
crisis. The landscapes displayed in the GIFS provide an ungoverned space for
the crisis to occur and thus facilitate a mediated reaction between horror and
meditation. In an attempt to mimic the movement of the jittering, anxious
figures, gestures are slowed down, fragmented and yet monumentalized. As a
result, a conversation between realism and abstraction as well as anxiety and
calm reflection transpires.
Risks & Challenges
We know that art can be a high stakes game. Every year the value of arts auctioned is breaking world records. At times that leaves very little room for contemporary artists to grow and to have a voice. Arts on the Credit is a show, and it is a medium for many young artists to display their talents. Your contribution influences the continuity of our medium. For our own voice.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't donate, that's okay. Please give our campaign a shout. Use the Indiegogo sharing tool, or simply share the URL to your social network. Tell your loved ones and friends about our campaign and come to our show on April. You'll feel the energy of our vibrant art community. Art will be in the air. That's cheesy, but its the truth!
A Very Big Thank You To...
