Hi, I'm Jen, the creator of Before Elixir. I've never been able to enjoy a single alcoholic beverage without turning red or feeling sick my entire life. I knew many people shared this problem so I wanted to solve it. Badabing! Before Elixir was born.
Before Elixir is a drink that stops flushing, headaches, and nausea caused by problem called Alcohol Flush Reaction, also known as Asian Glow. This problem affects 15% of all people but particularly people of Asian descent of which 70% are affected. Before Elixir works by slowing down the metabolism of alcohol and the production of a toxin in your liver that is responsible for the flushing and ill feelings people who have this problem experience.

Help Before Elixir get into bars, stores, and hands near you!
With the existing funds I had prior to Indiegogo, I researched, developed, and formulated Before Elixir into a drink that works and tastes pretty good too. I was also able to produce a limited run to sell on Before Elixir's website and to let customers try at tasting parties in Austin, LA, and San Francisco. During the first month Before Elixir was available online, we received over 30 orders! That's a lot for a new drink. However, producing a drink in small quantities is expensive per bottle and not cost effective. So I'd like to make a larger run and am now raising money to cover those costs.
In the beverage industry you have to choose between producing a small amount which is expensive per bottle, or making at least 50,000 bottles which is cheaper per bottle. But I found a copacker (the people who bottle drinks) that could produce smaller runs economically and grow with us.
I want to get Before Elixir into bars and stores near you. That means producing enough volume, hiring distributors, shipping to various parts of the country, and building a team to help me execute so I don't have to do it alone. Your contributions will make all of this a reality. You will help Before Elixir get to the people who need it and enable me to run a more efficient business. 4 heads are better than 1 right? Well, maybe not on the same person....that's just weird.

Hi, I'm Jen. I created Before Elixir to solve a personal problem. When I drank alcohol, I not only flushed red, I also felt sick for hours. I knew that many people around the world had this problem too and I wanted to help. That's how Before Elixir was born!
I'm not a scientist or a chemist. I'm a determined problem solver and Before Elixir is my solution. I enlisted the help of scientific and beverage industry experts to help me create a drink that works. David Sprague, my angel investor and advisor, holds a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and has an extensive research background in biochemistry. Aimy Steadman, my close friend and colleague is the founder of successful beverage startup and is teaching me the beverage industry ropes. Beung Kwon my Events Coordinator has a decade of experience organizing and promoting events for big brands in the beverage and clothing industries.

How much do I have to drink for it to work?
We recommend you drink an entire 8 oz. bottle of Before Elixir 30 min before consuming alcohol and mix it with every 3rd drink if you're having a longer night out. However, everyone is different. Some have found good results with only half a bottle. You might find that you need one every 5 drinks or every 2. It's up to you!
Can it be used as a mixer?
MOST DEFINITELY! Before Elixir pairs excellently with rum, vodka, and gin. But don't be afraid to try your own concoctions and let us know what you like!
Does Before Elixir work with wine?Wine contains many sulfates and allergens that cause people to turn red for reasons unrelated to Alcohol Flush, so Before Elixir may not work with wine but it really depends on the individual.
What does it taste like?
Slightly sweet vitamins with a bit of a kick at the end. The current sugar content is 15 grams for an 8 oz. serving. I'm working on reducing that in the next formulation. but all those vitamins and amino acids have a strong flavor and we want Before Elixir to be palatable.
Is it vegan, gluten, and dairy-free?
YES! ...How cool is that?
Why is international shipping so expensive?
We are working on getting an international distribution but for now we have to rely on USPS and these are the cheapest rates we can currently provide. If we are able to reduce the cost we'll pass on the savings to all our international customers.
