Short Summary
Our team has been invited to participate
in the 2014 Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fl.
We are accepting the invitation for a number of reasons. Participating in this event gives our student
athletes a chance to represent our team and our school on a national
level. It also gives our student
athletes a chance to showcase their talents in front of a large number of
scouts and colleges coaches. Most
importantly our student athletes will experience “Real Life” and “Authentic” hands-on
learning opportunities that can only be gained by participating in a trip like
this.
The Kreul Classic offers national
attention for our student athletes. Last year’s event included attendance from
significant recruiting services and colleges (Harvard, UCLA, Kentucky, Florida,
Miami, Florida State, North Florida, California, Coast Guard, St. Vincent, many
more). Tournament information and game results were transmitted to more than 160
national and local media outlets.
The educational value of traveling will be
immeasurable for our student athletes. During this entire opportunity they will
be able to differentiate weather and climate of North Carolina and Southern
Florida during the winter months. They
can conduct experiments while traveling: calculating time, speed, and distance. The hotel will be ten minutes from the beach;
therefore, we can collaborate with science teachers on lessons that will be
relevant to their classes. We would be
able to tour historical sites in the area that the students would otherwise
only be able to read about. Participating in this event would cause us to miss
one day of school which we would plan on getting lesson plans and assignments
for students. In the proposed budget we
have included a spot for an Instructional facilitator from the school. His/her
role would be to ensure the instructional component is fulfilled through the duration
of the trip.
Your donation would go towards making the trip more affordable for the families of our student athletes.
What We Need & What You Get
We need approximately $15,000 for the trip and that includes:
$7,500 - bus
$5,250 - 7 hotel rooms 5 nights
$2,000 - for meals
If we do not meet our goals the families will be asked to cover the remainder of the trip, which is a tall task for the majority of our families.
By you donating to our team for this
trip you are making an experience possible that kids in our community wouldn’t
usually have. Our student athletes work extremely hard on the court but also in
the classroom and in the community. We want to expose our student athletes to
more of the world than just what is in Greensboro. This trip could possibly be
the motivation or inspiration for some of our players to further their
education and make more of themselves than they could have ever imagined.
Risks
& Challenges
Our biggest challenge is obviously going to be
raising the amount of money needed for this trip. We have already gotten a
start on raising the money by doing other small fundraisers including selling paraphernalia
and working AAU tournaments. We have already put down deposits on the bus,
hotel and tournament fees.
