My name is Jess and I am a 30 year old Berliner, now living in London. I am an artist, stylist AND a feminist.

My project #bigswingingovaries is an exhibition, exploring and incorporating art, feminism and recycling.

The exhibition will run for 11 days with the opening night being the 8th of march, coinciding with world women's day.

I have developed a technique of creating these unique pieces of art, using recycled clothes, donated by friends, family and customers to hand-sew relief portraits attached to a plywoodbacking.

I call it RETEX SCULPTING -REcycled TEXtile SCULPTING

The central message of this series of portraits is to convey the importance of female role models, in our current society and for future generations.

 Why i need your help you ask?

I want to inspire people to overcome preconceptions about what it means to be a feminist.

I want to open conversation, not just between the genders but with everybody ho still believes that the notion of feminism is redundant.

I want to show, that something valuable can be created from things that others think are worthless

And most importantly,...............

I want to support a remarkable project called #techmums , lead and initiated by my friend Dr. Sue Black. An organisation, empowering women through tech.

Half of the proceeds of each sold piece will go to this cause.

To make this exhibition a huge success, i need funds!

- for a central London venue, allowing for best possible accessibility and exposure

- to appropriately frame each portrait, exhibiting it to it's best, while protecting the fabrics

- and to market the show ensuring it launches with a BANG!!!

FUNDING BREAK-DOWN

Venue:  

I need £3300 for the hire of this incredibly situated venue in the heart of central london for 2 weeks- making sure the space is easy accessible to everybody as well as giving  great exposure to the show. I am currently in negotiations about some extra time to bring this great space up to exhibition standards with the help of my friends and of course YOU!

Framing:

As size and depth of each piece vary greatly, box-frames will have to be custom made also including non-reflective, UV protective glass at an approximate £2000 for the ten pieces.

Marketing:

Approximately £2500 will help me run an advertising campaign on the london underground, as well as printing promotional material, such as flyers, posters, and a large scale banner for the venue.

Furthermore, albeit the incredible help in kind, i am already receiving of friends, family and customers, i estimate another £1500 for transporting art work to and from the venue, set-up and take down the show, as well as additional payed helpers to secure a smooth run throughout the period of the exhibition.

As i estimate £9300  to run this show, i need to raise another £700, taking into account a 4% fee to be payed to indiegogo for letting me use their platform as well a 3% third part fee's for paypal.  

My funding goal therefor comes to £10,000 in total.

As i don't expect those of you that don't know me, to just throw money at me in blind faith, i have prepared a vast amount of perks, relating directly to the #bigswingingovaries exhibition, for you to snap up a little piece of the great cause.
