As a concept BIKEHUD was formed in 2010. As a ‘mature’ rider I was aware of the time taken to focus/refocus between the road ahead and the instrumentation. Half the time my mirrors showed only my shoulders or vibrated so much they were unusable.  Each time I checked, I was riding blind. There had to be a better way!

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign raising over £100 000, our original BIKEHUD was launched at the UK’s Bike Show 'Motorcycle Live' in November 2013 and started shipping early January 2014.

BIKEHUD has sold worldwide, ridden many thousands of miles by riders of all experiences on bikes of all styles. We've received volumes of feedback as to how to improve the original BIKEHUD.

Five years on we introduce the all-new BIKEHUD. It's smaller. It has a SERIOUS battery life. and if you know what a screwdriver looks like you can fit it in minutes. The new BIKEHUD delivers so much more while giving the rider choices of using as much or as little as he needs. Above all BIKEHUD riders focus on their ride, not on the tech.

Testing of our 3rd and final iteration electronics is underway. Final designs of the plastics are still being thrashed out and the commencement of manufacture of the core product is on-schedule; with the first 100 units shipping in early December 2019. Shipping for the balance of products sold through our Perks Program will commence in February 2020. 

Our phone App is at the design stage with a Beta release expected November 2019. The final release is scheduled for March 2020. Initial functionality will include:-

• GPS Navigator provides simple concise turn by turn information.
• Who is calling alert - If an incoming caller is in your phone directory BIKEHUD will let you know who is calling you otherwise the number is displayed.
• Configuration of BIKEHUD - e.g. speed units, which side of the road is ridden etc

Electronics for our OBDII Device that clips into the CanBus diagnostic socket on your bike is currently undergoing testing.  Each motorcycle model needs to be mapped to ensure BIKEHUD understands what each signal is.  Creation of a library of motorcycles throughout the world will commence once testing is complete. Release of the OBD device is scheduled for June 2020 once the library contains the most popular motorcycle models. 

Initially, the OPDII device will relay 4 items of data to BIKEHUD:-

• Indicator warning
• Gear position
• Engine Revs
• Fuel warning

PLEASE NOTE:- While all motorcycles manufactured after 2002 will have a diagnostic socket, not all will have the OBDII format. Display functionality is very much dependent on the make, model and year of your motorcycle.

The original BIKEHUD idea and the continuation of the dream are driven by the desire of a few individuals to make a difference. The interface between rider, machine and her/ his surroundings hasn’t changed since the first motorcycle rolled out of the shed where it was built.  In 2019 there is a better way. Back in 2010, we believed so much in motorcycle HUD technology that we put everything we had into making the dream a reality. In 2019 we are putting everything we have left into making the reality mainstream.

The new BIKEHUD is no longer the dream of a few. It is the culmination of all the ideas of a community of like-minded individuals with a common love of motorbikes.

Risks & Challenges

Having raised funding via crowd-funding before to design and manufacture the first BIKEHUD clearly we have the experience to do it all again. That said we are not resting on our laurels. We've identified and mitigated a number of risks that may have caused delays. We list these as follows:-
