I’m Carmen Caceres, artistic director of DanceAction and we will premiere our
new piece Game Night at Binary Series. I’m
Alvaro Gonzalez, director of EstadoFlotante and we will be presenting our critically
acclaimed work Line 0 at Binary Series.
Binary Series is a split bill series produced by Carmen
Caceres and Alvaro Gonzalez that will take place at the Center for Performance Research in
Brooklyn, NY in December 11 & 12, 2015 at 8pm. Binary Series
is a platform that facilitates the creative exchange between dance artists with
different backgrounds, culturally, geographically, or artistically.
Our primary purpose for this campaign is to raise 7,000 dollars
in order to cover Artists Fees for our performers, choreographers, musicians,
costume designers, and photographers. Additionally we would like to create a
fund to continue this endeavor, generating more opportunities for artists to
encourage their creative growth, and get more exposure. Please consider
helping Binary Series by making a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to reach its goal, your support is greatly appreciated.
What We Need & What You Get
We need to reach the goal of $7,000 with this campaign. Your support will
primarily cover artists’ fees. There are 16
artists involved in Binary Series: 10 dancers, 2 musicians, 1 costume
designer, 1 photographer/videographer, and 2 choreographers. The dancers are a key component of this
project. Besides rehearsing weekly for over six months, dedicating their time,
energy, and talent, the dancers also collaborate with the creative process of
both works that will be presented at the series. For their great artistic
contribution and their remarkable efforts, we need $3000 in total to compensate them. Additionally we will be paying other artistic
collaborators: $500 will be destined to the musicians, $250 to the costume
designer, and $200 to the photographer/videographer.
With our personal funds and the generous contribution from
friends and donors, we were able to cover $4,000 of our budget, designated to
the rental of rehearsal space, rental of the performance space for the event,
and the performance insurance policy. There is still a reminder of $1,700 that
we need to raise in order to cover the production costs. These expenses include
marketing costs (printed flyers & posters) and materials for the works (such
as costumes and props). With your help we will be able to do so.
Additionally, we will assign part of the funds to continue
producing Binary Series and invite other performing artists to participate.
This will enable artists from the dance community in New York City, to have an
opportunity to meet, interact, and merge their identities through a performing
arts' platform of this nature.
We would like to thank you for your generous support to our
project by offering you some exciting perks. Even the smallest contribution
counts and we greatly appreciate it.
What We Do & Who We Are
The first edition of Binary Series will feature the work of its
co-founders, Carmen Caceres/DanceAction and Alvaro Gonzalez
Dupuy/EstadoFlotante.
DanceAction is an emerging dance company based in
New York City, founded by Argentinian choreographer Carmen Caceres. It combines
the talent of several collaborators in dance, music, drama, and visual arts.
All these artists come from diverse backgrounds and have their individual
artistic aesthetic, but work together as a team to produce performing art
works. We share the same urge of reflecting about social issues, people, and
relationships through our craft.
In 2009 Alvaro Gonzalez Dupuy
conceived EstadoFlotante in Santiago de Chile, as a creative platform
that facilitates dance works based on his direction, as well as collaborative
projects he initiates. Since 2013, Alvaro has been working with the company in
New York City exploring his ideas related to dance and movement-based
performance. He contemplates a vision of movement research that encourages a
constant exchange of ideas and perspectives.
The Impact
Binary Series is a platform that
offers an opportunity for dance artists in New York City to interact,
collaborate, and merge their identities. New York City is a melting pot of
cultural diversity; a large part of its broad population come from Latin America,
Asia, Africa, and even Europe, generating one of the most culturally diverse
cities in the world. This diversity is also present within the Dance Community,
thus making New York City the ideal place for this type of event to take place.
This series will promote the cultural exchange in the dance community in the
city, allowing artists from diverse backgrounds, either culturally,
geographically, or artistically to interact and connect through their work.
