Short Summary

I'm Jennifer and I'm a curly head. What does that mean? It means I spend about 15 mins under a spray of water in the shower detangling my hair. It means I rub coconut oil in my scalp and ends everyday because my curls are thirsty. But most of all, it means I spent most of my life hating my curls (I once was called Howard Stern in high school- Ouch!). I hated the halo of dark coils (on a good hair day) or wiry, frizzy strands (on any given day, especially in the humidity) framing my face. But now as an adult, I learned to love the hair I was born with, because I learned to care for the hair I was born with. What BirthdayCurl.com sets out to do is sell great products to beautiful curlies of all ethnicities and of all ages, all while promoting the idea to "love the hair you were born with".

What We Need & What You Get

Ok here's the nitty gritty, we need $5,000, probably more, to get the ecommerce store up and running. I ran the numbers today and I nearly ripped out a curl. But it's ok because here's where the money's going:

  • Inventory- Can't make any sales with no product- yeah? 
  • Web Design- With this store being online and all- It has to look good!
  • Office Space- We will do our own packing/shipping/receiving and my house is too small :-( So we need a space.
  • A PC/Printer- I only have a Mac- Unfortunately, my web host and the USPS software work better off of PC and my printer is a 5 yr old deskjet- Need I say more?

The Impact

The inspiration to start BirthdayCurl.com originally came from the rough job market out there. I just recently completed a Master's course in London and haven't received not one job offer in the past three months. Well, I'm not one to not take a hint. So as that adage goes: if you can't join them, BEAT THEM!

Here's the difference your contribution will make:

  • Creating jobs- It's rough out there and if you can help me, help people out by hiring and mentoring, we'll be making a HUGE difference and bringing some hometown glory to Roselle, NJ.
  • Promoting natural beauty. After all the years spent blow drying and flat ironing my hair into submission, I'm so glad to see women and girls embrace their natural hair textures. 
  • Launching my career as an entrepreneur and no longer having to be a cog in the corporate machine. My resume includes a great wealth of roles: bartender, Production Assistant, Specialist at Apple, red carpet correspondent, fashion stylist... I could go on but I don't think you want me to. My point is I've learned a lot about business and being a boss, it's time to put the skills to good use.
