This is the main dish of Bittersweet Birthday. Combat takes place in real-time, as your reflexes are put to the test. Here, the spotlight shines brightly on the enemies, which will feature numerous animations that properly telegraph their intentions so you can live on the edge of the moment!

As the player, your bread and butter is your light-attack: a quick 3-hit combo! By being quick and having a generous hitbox, this is the most optimal way to chip at your enemies and break their focus!

Once your enemy loses their focus, they'll start glowing red. When this happens, you can use your heavy-attack to catch your opponent while they are doing theirs, in order to knock them down to the floor and rack some more damage!

With every encounter not only will you become more skilled... but so will the protagonist! New skills are bound to open paths to new strategies and methods of exploration!

Our goal with the enemies rather than each being more difficult than the previous one is for each to present a unique challenge. For example, the first enemy's abilities are mostly inspired by Bullet Hells...

 Others will rely on more physical attacks, with odd timings and counters like in Soulslikes.

The only certainty is that every combat will be different to keep you on your toes!

And this is only the beginning! You can expect a wide variety of combat styles and arenas in OVER A DOZEN BATTLES!

Bittersweet Birthday is... tough. And while we and a lot of our fans love it like that, the reality is that some people are just interested in the story. This put us in a tight spot since to us, the story we want to tell is very important and we want as many people as possible to experience it and fall in love with it while still keeping true to our design beliefs.

Thankfully, we found a solution that leaves no compromises..!

Memories are powerful, and even more so in Bittersweet Birthday. By completing side-quests, solving mysteries, or finding secret items, you'll unlock a bunch of them. Every dear memory you recover will enhance you with different effects, letting you tweak the odds in your favor the best way you see fit!

Sadly, like in life, not all memories reflect on better times. The good news is that if you'd like an even greater challenge, you can use some of these "bad" memories in order to further ramp up the difficulty to your heart's content!

The intended level of difficulty does not require the use of Memories. However, you can customize your experience and define the level of challenge you'd like to face!

Take a break from the main campaign and indulge in some free-roaming exploration. Different areas are full of mysteries and curiosities in every corner, available for you to unveil!

Colorful characters from different backgrounds offer a full tour of both the past and the future. Gather the pieces and build this world-building puzzle!

Expect many reasons to return to the game... who knows what else you may discover!

Help the town residents with their daily-life struggles and find out more about the state of the world you live in. Every NPC has been written to steal a smile from you!

Side quests interlock through item management and even day and night time!

We've thought of many ways to reward the player's curiosity. Items, Memories, Collectibles, etc, all await the curious and the restless!

You may find tokens by exploring around town or by receiving them from thankful villagers and redeem them for Gachapon in Muina's Gacha machine!

Gachapon is the latest craze in town! Try your luck at collecting the rarest of them or simply finding your favorites. There are over 50 of them of the Cool, Creepy, and Cute kind, so get started!

World Eater Games is a team of two life-long friends based in Panama. With the help of two amazing artists and an incredible musician, our goal is to deliver challenging but fun experiences and charming but gut-wrenching stories like the ones that made us fall in love with gaming in the first place.

Besides this magnificent team, we also somehow managed to get in contact with Jérôme Bailly, who has composed many songs for Epica!!! He will be helping us make some genuine heavy metal music and has in fact already made a short preview for you guys! Give it a listen!

Team of pineapples to help make the fruitcake happen!

Pineapple Works is a Polish publishing and porting studio focused on indie games. They recently helped Oddventure with their own campaign and are set to help them with development, and are also responsible for publishing and porting Death And Taxes on the Nintendo Switch. It's thanks to them that Bittersweet Birthday will come to the Switch as well without the need of meeting a stretch goal!

Why Indiegogo?

Up until now, we've been able to fund the project thanks to the kindness of friends and family, as well as at times full-time jobs, and at others, part-time jobs. With the overwhelmingly positive response to the demo we launched shortly before Christmas, we felt it was finally time to kick it into full gear.

Development is being made with the Godot Engine and we're pretty far along, mostly falling short in the asset department. With the money we manage to collect from this campaign, we'll be able to properly compensate our artists and musician for their work which will allow us to fully devote ourselves to the game, making development possible. Here's a quick breakdown of how the funds will be managed.

Risks & Challenges

We are aware of how cautious one needs to be with projects when it comes to a team with no previous released products, which is why we went so incredibly hard on the demo so that you can see what we are capable of and the commitment we have to the project. Polishing the demo up to this point has also made it easier for us to properly calculate how much time, effort, and money it would take to develop the rest of the game. Based on this experience we are confident that we can deliver the complete game within the estimated release window.

Should the goal be met, the game will be completed. We hope to have earned your trust with what we've shown so far.
