Blindspot tells the story of two individuals. One who has wronged a lot of people, and one who is out right those wrongs. They’ve both lost loved ones, had relationships fall apart, and have both at one time or another had their dignity removed. As they try to get it all back, the audience is forced to question how they feel about justice, absolution and revenge. Can someone atone for mistakes they’ve made, even at the cost of a life? Or does blood always beget blood? A non linear story structure reveals Blindspot’s examinations of this question, bouncing back and forth between the actions and the consequences.
The world of Blindspot came from a running joke between a friend and I: “What if you got kidnapped, I got the ransom call and proceeded to tell the kidnappers that I don’t have it.” The thought always brought me to a stream of tears and hysteria. Thoughts of the best black humor ran through my head and after a few weeks, I had written a script.
As I got to understand each character, their motivations, and began to realize that, just as it is in life: no one is truly good or bad, I realized the entire story changed and Blindspot was born. Empathy, revenge, and a plethora of unhinged emotions; I’m making this to illustrate the parallels between good and bad, right and wrong, and overall show the inherent humanity within my morally grey characters.
Initially this was to be a low budget project. I planned to shoot a more guerilla style film with an iPhone X and a skeleton crew. As the story and characters grew it became more apparent that we needed the proper tools and equipment to truly bring their essence to life.
What I am asking for is support for a $6,000 budget for a fully formed crew who believe in the story, artists who can use their honed skills to add unique storytelling elements, and the means to bring Blindspot to places where it can be seen by the audience it deserves.
