Our first funding campaign help us raise enough to shoot the first three episodes of this 17-episode series with an Arri Alexa camera.  Now, we need an additional $2,000 to help us finish the post-production for the first three episodes.

The Story Synopsis

Blood Brothers is about an educated young African American, Rube, forced to hustle and survive on the streets. Rube has been put between a rock-and-a-hard place, trying to help someone he loves, but being dragged down by someone he looks up to.

Rube's mother Pearl is sick with pneumonia, while he is away at Grad School. Pearl has a strong religious background, good morals and a great relationship with Rube. Rube's brother Cal is a mid-level drug dealer, who's been in-and-out of jail, is somewhat psychotic and currently looking to get off the streets to have a better life, any way he can.

Rube approaches Cal about borrowing some money to get the necessary health care their mother needs. Cal loans Rube the money on one condition: that Rube goes to work for him. Cal, knowing how smart his brother is, figures that Rube will be able to find a way for him to make a quick buck and get out of the street life. Due to Pearl's strong morals and religious beliefs she wouldn't take any money from Cal, but coming from Rube she would believe that he has made an honest buck.

The story opens up two weeks after Rube has borrowed the money from his brother Cal. Cal puts pressure on Rube to quickly repay his money in hopes that Rube will come up with a plan to make Cal rich.

However, Rube's journey leads him to places he never thought possible and puts him in a position he can't avoid - brother-against-brother.

Blood Brothers: Can you really trust your family?

The Story Behind the Story: Based on Von Ware's Dream

Blood Brothers started as a dream, literally. Jamie Nieto's best friend, Von Ware, a fellow elite-athlete and filmmaker extraordinaire, came to him one day, and said, "I had a dream that you were on the street corner, hustling, trying to survive, in between a rock-and-a-hard place; trying to help someone you loved, but being dragged down by someone you looked up to."

From Von's dream Jamie ended up writing not just a short story, but also an entire full-length feature film. Together their creative collaboration led to the ideas and characters that became the Blood Brothers story. Blood Brothers contains sweeping narratives, dramatic plots and a compelling story to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire Web series.

Once the script was finished, Von and Jamie wanted to immediately shoot at least the beginning scene with Von's new Canon 7D camera. Von wanted to work on shooting under low lighting, while visually capturing a dramatic scene. They filmed the first scene in about an hour-and-a-half.  They promoted the test shoot via YouTube, and soon garnered interest from a major production company that wanted to pitch the idea to a major network; but only after they saw a few more episodes to see how the plot would unfold.

So Jamie decided to cut the movie up into 16 episodes.  However, instead of shooting three or four more episodes as a "pitch," Jamie and his producers made the decision to raise enough money to shoot the entire series.

The series ends with a cliffhanger to lead into a second season, since the goal is to become one of the first major Web series to get picked up by a network as it enters its second season. The Blood Brothers Season 2 script is currently in development.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you want to contribute in other than just monetarily, here are some other ways in which you can donate (and with any of the items listed below, it doesn't have to be for the whole filming, it can be for one day):

Introduction to Additional Investors - We will compensate you if you help us raise the rest of the funds needed and / or if you give us a referral to an investor and a deal is signed.

Catering - We need catering for 3 meals a day for 16 days, plus food, coffee and snacks.  Even helping out by cooking just "one" meal for up to 25 people will be helpful.  Or giving us a referral to a catering company, restaurant or kitchen that would be interested in donating.

Automobiles - This is a flashy show and we need flashy cars.  Helping us get a car donated for the day would be amazing.

Graphics - Donate your skills to create flyers and graphics that we can use in our marketing materials, etc.

Still Photographers - We need behind-the-scenes photos, etc., to document the whole process.

Videographers - We need behind-the-scenes video coverage to use on our social media sites, like YouTube, to help us with our marketing efforts.

Crew - If you're involved in the entertainment industry and would like to help out, let us know.

Equipment - If you have any equipment that we can use and not have to purchase or rent, we'd love to save the cost and put your equipment to use!

Social Media Experts - If you have ideas for promoting our project, we are all ears!

Volunteers - We need Production Assistants on set to help out with everything!  You will get credit for this and get to be on set everyday!

Extras - There are plenty of scenes where we need background extras.  Just let us know if you're interested.

Promote - Tell your friends and family about our project by posting a link to our IndieGogo page on your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, etc.!

Financials

To date, in addition to sweat equity, Jamie Nieto, the Writer, Executive Producer and Lead Role in the project, has put aside $5,000 of his own private capital to seed the pre-production process.

We prefer that you pay via PAYPAL as the money is deposited into our account immediately, versus having to wait until the end of the campaign if you pay by Visa or Mastercard.  However, it is not required, as we accept your help however possible.
