Bluecoats Alumni Coppinger Family Memorial Fund
On January 23rd, 2015 Jonathan Coppinger, his wife Jessica (Carnes) Coppinger, and their unborn child Barrett were struck and killed in a head-on collision in East Texas.
The Coppingers are known for being a drum corps family. Jonathan was a snare drummer and drum captain of The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. His older brother Nathan Coppinger marched at the same time with The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. Nathan marched from the 2007 season through the 2010 season and was the trumpet section leader and Bluecoat of the Year in 2010. His father Jeff was a long-time Volunteer for both the Bluecoats and Troopers organizations and his mother Theresa was an avid fan and supporter.
Our hearts break for all family members and friends affected by the tragic loss of this young family. Jon and Jessi were a bright light in all of the lives they touched. Both were extremely passionate about their faith, tight-knit familes, close friends, and their life together. Both were born and raised in Texas, and met while attending college together at Stephen F. Austin State University. They were inseparable ever since. They lived a simple and mindful life, had huge life dreams and aspirations for their future together, and embodied true love. Post college graduation, Jon and Jessi were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby boy Barrett in March 2015. The three of their lives were cut catastrophically short in an event that none of us can begin to wrap our heads around.
Bluecoats Alumni are calling on past Bluecoat members, staff, volunteers, fans, and anyone who would like to assist the Coppinger family in their time of need. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated, and the family will receive all funds raised. The Troopers are also starting their own scholarship fund in Jonathan's honor and can be found here:

Please continue to keep both the Coppinger and Carnes family, extended family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they endure the unimaginable. Jonathan, Jessica, and Barrett – you will be remembered, missed, and cherished forever by those who were lucky enough to know you and even by those who did not.
