Short Summary
Blue Hour Theatre Group was founded in 2019 as a way to share stories about the personal and social impacts of environmental change and the struggle to sustain meaningful connections through it all.
After a two-year hiatus due to a global pandemic, we are ready to get back on stage with 'boom'. This dark, end-of-the-world comedy follows a grad student who seeks out a partner for a Saturday night hook-up in his subterranean lab promising "sex to change the course of the world". And he ain't joking.
We need your help and here's why
We are a small collective of artists who have decided to produce meaningful shows for the Seattle community. We do this purely for the love of theater and the arts. We are extremely fortunate to have amazing and talented actors, stage managers, lighting designers, and others who bring these stories to life for a live audience. These individuals are dedicated, rehearsing for 6-7 weeks, performing over 3 weekends. Our goal is to support their hard work with a small stipend and to provide them with a safe and adequate space to do it in.
Here is breakdown of the cost of putting up this show and where your money goes:
- Props - $500
- Rights to the play - $600
- Rehearsal space - $1,000
- Performance venue rental - $4,000
- Stipends for cast/crew - $1,500
If we do not reach our goal of $7,600, the first $1,500 goes to the artists (cast and crew). After all, we couldn't do any of this without them. After that, we pay the rent so that our patrons have a nice place to come see us.
The Impact
Blue Hour is committed to making our shows accessible to everyone. We're offering pay-what-you-can tickets for all performances. Our suggested contribution is $15 per person -- but we trust you to judge what works for you. If you can afford to, please consider paying a little extra to help cover the costs of those who can't. If $15 is too much, please offer whatever amount feels comfortable to you. See FAQs for more info.
Your support helps us continue to create accessible, thought-provoking theater that encourages audiences to think critically about environmental change, build meaningful connections with the community, and, yes, even laugh through it all - because we need that now more than ever.
