To celebrate moving into his new apartment, Devin hosts a housewarming for his best friends.  However, following the arrival of some uninvited guests, Devin is forced to confront the ways in which his professional prosperity impacts his relationships with those closest to him.

OUR STORY SO FAR...

• My name is Hassan Govia, and I am a mixed race actor and writer from London.  This is my first effort at writing a full length play, having recently completed my acting training at Mountiew Academy of Theatre Arts.
• Whilst at Mountview, I undertook a solo project examining the continuing diversity issue within the UK for black actors, in part concluding that the cultivation of original, innovative work exploring the complexities and range within black British culture aside from what we have become used to seeing within the media (fictional or otherwise) was imperative.  My intentions as a playwright are to contribute to this much needed canon of work, with Boujie being the start of that journey.
• We will be using our slot in the ‘Gravity Festival’ as a means of developing the show by testing the script in front of an audience and obtaining valuable feedback, in the hopes of securing an opportunity for a full production in the future.  Your contributions will aid in allowing for an effective execution of this premiere performance.

What We Need & What You Get

• The contributions we raise will pay for our production costs, including the hiring of the performance space, the actors’ expenses for a week’s worth of rehearsal and the cost of the tech team.  £500 is the minimum we need to achieve this, but our goal is flexible so anything extra we raise will go towards distinctive articles, like props and costume, as well as promotional material required for the venue (posters and photographs).
• As well as being forever credited as a backer of Boujie, we will return your generosity with some bespoke gestures, signature to our show (see PERKS list).

Challenges

• A project of this nature is sure to come with risks, but we endeavour to overcome these with the one thing that has gotten us to this point: PASSION.  Being unfunded, everything we have managed to achieve so far has been testament to the dedication of all creatives involved, and our belief in the work.  We have also benefited from the generosity of various establishments providing us with free rehearsal space, including Mountview and St. Matthew’s Church (Harlesden), as well as Writers Avenue for affording us the opportunity to bring our vision from the page to the stage.
