Overview
From the director and the writer of The Fat Boy Chronicles, BOXES is the story of Uncle Robbie, who is down on his luck. His brother won't go the extra mile until he learns from his own sons that everyone deserves a second chance, even family. BOXES is a short film that is a modern day fable about how everyone has worth, a value sometimes forgotten in our hurry-up, materialistic world. The script was a finalist in a Southeastern competition and will inspire everyone who sees it to rethink how they treat others. We will offer the film to non-profits for fundraising events.
More Than a Movie
BOXES will be shown at seven fundraiser screenings for seven organizations that serve the homeless. To do that, we need a little over $7,000 for production, but with each screening having the potential to raise thousands to help the homeless, your contribution will be result in donations far beyond what you have given.
Meet the Team
Aside from The Fat Boy Chronicles(2012), which won multiple awards during its festival tour, writer Michael Buchanan and director Jason Winn also created Last Bullet (2009) an award-winning short set in Vietnam. The Fat Boy Chronicles feature was released in January 2012 and became the nation’s #6 most rented family movie in Redbox shortly thereafter. Currently streaming on Netflix, the film has been seen by over a million people worldwide while receiving accolades from parents and kids for its impacting, yet hopeful depiction of an obese and bullied 9th grader’s world. Jason Winn’s career also includes the celebrated narrative short Paula Peril : Midnight Whistle which will be featured at ComicCon this year.
Michael Buchanan’s latest co-authored novel, The Fat Boy Chronicles, which inspired the movie, was released in 2010. It won the National Parenting Publication’s Gold Award, the Mom’s Choice Award of Excellence and is used by schools around the nation in their anti-bullying and childhood obesity efforts. Buchanan has been a juror for film festivals and keynoted the 2011 International Anti-Bullying Convention in New Orleans. He is a retired teacher who still works with efforts aimed at helping students.
Scott Seeke (Producer, Story consultant) wrote the story that led to the acclaimed film Get Low. This award-winning film starred Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek. Seeke is active in serving the homeless near his home in Atlanta, and brings major motion picture experience and a passion for service to BOXES.
Julie Watson (Producer, Graphic Design) has created amazing graphics, posters and media for years. She designed the poster for The Fat Boy Chronicles, Last Bullet and will do the same for BOXES
The Plan
We plan to shoot BOXES within two months of funding completion over a period of two days. Perks will include stills from set, signed posters, DVDs, signed scripts, associate producer and producer credit and set visits as well as helping make what will be an emotional ten-minute film. We will use the highest quality gear with a wonderful cast. Post will be professionally done and the film will be festival ready by year’s end. But not before our contributors get a copy!
The minimum budget for the film is $7500. This will be used for high-end camera, lenses, lights, cast, crew, location, food, post, music, and festivals entry fees.
We are very passionate about this film and are happy that you have read our pitch. We look forward to making BOXES and believe it will make a positive difference. We thank you in advance for your contribution and your support. As always, we will do our very best for those who help us out.
Upon completion of the film, we will work with non-profit organizations to help raise awareness of the issues portrayed in the film.
How You Can Help
The budget is $7500 and will be used for a high-quality production of the short. To do just that, you cannot ask people to work for free. A two-day shoot will hold costs down and we plan to film on a weekend.

What You Get
Aside from our gratitude, which will be endless, you will get credit at the end of the film (unless you come in at producer level, then it’s at the beginning) along with many other hands-on gifts.
Such as:
- Props from the film
-Signed stills from set
-Signed copies of the script
-Set visits
-DVD downloads or Physical Copy Mailed to You (in the U.S.)
-Signed specially-designed poster
-Signed copies of The Fat Boy Chronicles DVD and Novel
-Calls from the director, writer or actors
-This one is really cool—Since cardboard boxes will be used in the production, we will take the actual boxes, cut them up and use that as a mat for stills from the set. They will be signed by the actor, director and writer.
-Your name in the Special Thanks section at end of film
This will happen with your help and contribution. We are excited about making the film and to have others on the journey with us. A film is forever and the friendships found along the way are priceless. If you like what we are doing but can’t make a contribution, please share our project with your friends.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
