Where we've been and where we're going
HELP Uganda is a partnership between HELP International in the US and the people of the refugee village of Masese, Uganda. Our four-year partnership has given life-saving hope to Masese and the 500 children whose families could not afford school fees, who now attend HELP Primary School up to grade 6.
These children, who previously ate one meal every three days, now eat two meals a day at school and over 200 previously unemployed adults now have an income from a variety of micro-businesses that have been started with our help.
We believe that the path towards change for these people and their country is through the education of the children. Our school currently only goes to grade 6. Grade 7 is the last step to secondary education- a dream for our children. We currently do not have anywhere to house additional classrooms, most of these children's schooling will end if they are not able to continue their education at our school.
The local government gave us a 49 year lease on our property in Uganda- a testimony to our commitment to our friends in Masese. As our commitment to Masese and the HELP School grows, so must our physical structures. Our first step of building a security fence has just been completed, which not only keeps our children safe at school but also protects our property.
Our next plan is to build this new classroom block which will house two classrooms to accommodate our new classes and a computer room to develop computer literacy for village residents. Computer literacy is a vehicle for job opportunities for our parents and vital step towards self-sustainability for this community.
What are we asking for & what do you get?
We need to raise $25,000 to build a new classroom block which will house 2 new classrooms and a computer lab for our students and the community.
For a $25 donation you will essentially be purchasing a brick to help build our new classroom. As a thank you, we will send you a "brick" ready to give as a gift, or to proudly display for yourself. Check out what the "brick" looks like here :
Of course larger donations are welcome with different levels of recognition.
Who will benefit?
The HELP Uganda project, while focusing heavily on the school, is truly a community outreach project, benefiting everyone in the village of Masese.
- The children at the HELP School. They will be able to extend their education beyond the 6th grade level and gain access to computer education.
- The community that surrounds our school. Our computer lab will be able to provide computer access to those who would not have it otherwise. Computer literacy will help create job opportunities for members of the community.
- This project will help stimulate the economy by creating construction jobs and by purchasing supplies from the area.
Why our organization?
We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit corporation. Our American team is made up entirely of volunteers. The only paid employees are the employees of the project in Uganda. We have a long term commitment to this community and a great relationship with the community leaders. Our previous fundraising campaign for our fence project was recently completed and has created a great sense of pride in the community.
