BornFyne: Empowering Rural Cameroon Mothers (Family Planning and Maternal Health)
Bringing Essential Digital Healthcare to Rural Cameroon Women
Revolutionizing maternal care with digital health solutions and empowering communities
The Problem That Must Be Solved
Rural women in Cameroon are losing their lives every day because of the lack of access to family planning services and maternal healthcare:
β‘ The women in the rural areas of Cameroon die in childbirth because they re
unable to receive key healthcare services, resulting in avoidable loss of lives.
β‘ The maternal mortality rate to define the magnitude of the problem Cameroon still has high maternal mortality of up to 438deaths for everyone 100000 live births and most of the deaths occur in rural areas
β‘ Access to healthcare is uneven between rural and urban locations. Only 10.6%
of rural women utilize modern family planning methods, compared to 20.7% in urban areas.
β‘ Poor power in health facilities makes safe delivery difficult and bars people from
using essential digital health services.
β‘ The inaccessibility of adequate medical information bars women from making informed choices about their health. This results in unwanted pregnancies and complications that could otherwise have been avoided.
Our Solution: The BornFyne Digital Health Platform
BornFyne is a useful mobile health app that delivers valuable information and services to pregnant women and new mothers in rural areas. Our holistic approach makes healthcare accessible anywhere and at any time.
Key Features
- Mobile Health Access: An oο¬ine-capable app, delivering essential family planning education and maternal health support.
- Cultural Integration: Support of various languages and local dialects to help people who may not be able to read.
The project facilitates provision of sustainable power solution but not a feature of the application. Limited power at health facility is a challenge for the project to effectively run digital platforms and support maternity delivery.
Our Goal
We would like to scale up the BornFyne platform to additional two districts and over 50 health facilities in Cameroon, giving mobile health to 10,000 women and 50 health centers with cutting-edge technology and renewable power and enhance equity in access and coverage
Project Objectives
- Donate 10,000 mobile phones to women in rural areas in order to allow them to access health information at their convenience.
- Install solar power in 50 health centers to provide reliable energy.
- Donate computers to 50 health centers to keep digital health records.
