Short Summary
After running the I Heart British TV website and community for 2 years now, we've noticed a couple problems common to British TV fans:
- With so many British TV programs, it can be hard to keep track of which ones you've watched.
- Once you've watched a lot of British TV, it can be hard to discover shows you haven't seen.
The British TV Guide contains well over 1000 British TV shows from the last 50 years. Shows are divided by category, and we provide air dates, descriptions, and a checklist of seasons and specials so you can mark off what you've seen.
Next time your favorite British TV service announces they're airing Series 6 of a show you like, you won't have to guess whether you've seen it - you can just check your field guide.
We'll also be creating a section on our website where you can look up the shows from the guide and see where you can watch them. As much as we'd love to include that information in the book, we don't want to print a guide that'll be outdated in a week. There will be plenty of journal space in the 8" x 10" guide so you can take notes.
What You Get
To make it both attractive and easy on the eyes, we're producing these 8" x 10" guides with larger-than-average text and color printing - along with plenty of journal space for jotting down notes, questions, or upcoming air dates on your favorite streaming service.
- We're offering our Indiegogo supporters a 25% discount off the eventual retail price of $20
- While we will be ordering extras, the Indiegogo campaign is the only way to guarantee you'll get a copy when they come out
- If we don't reach the full $5000 goal, we'll still go to print - but we'll print fewer copies. If you really want a copy, don't hesitate - pick your favorite option and pledge your support!
The Impact
Since we started IHeartBritishTV.com, we've heard so many great stories about how British TV has affected people's lives. We've had readers who watch on tablets during dialysis and caregivers who cherish the hours spent watching British TV with elderly loved ones. For others, including myself, it's a shared interest between different generations of family members.
Beyond that, a great many people have written in to say they feel better about themselves when they see all the "normal" people in British TV. British television doesn't push the older, or less conventionally attractive people to the sidelines. It's refreshing and quirky.
In short, British TV is a big deal to a lot of people - and we want to make it easier for people to discover and enjoy a wide variety of British shows. We've been doing it for 2 years with our website and Facebook group, and now's the time to take it to the next level. We hope you'll choose to be a part of it.
Risks & Challenges
Hundreds of man hours have already been invested, so the British TV Field Guide is nearly complete. That means there's very, very little risk of not delivering on time in November. However, in the interest of being overly cautious, there's always the remote chance of minor delays with the printer. We've arranged for a backup publisher in the event of price changes or problems with our first choice, just in case.
Mugs, towels, and tote bags will ship separately from your guide, and they'll likely arrive well before it does. This campaign ends in mid-September, at which time the non-guide items will be produced and shipped. Those items should arrive before the end of October at the latest.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't afford to contribute, no worries - there will be chances to win a copy after the guide goes live on our website. In the meantime, we really appreciate your help in spreading the word to more British TV fans. Check out the share buttons at the top of this page - we love the extra attention :)
To everyone who's read this far, thank you - and happy watching!
