About Me
I had always wanted to make video games from a young age, to the point that I would make drawings of game idea's and give them to the people at Blockbuster, thinking that they could get them to someone to be made.
It was silly but I was a kid. I didn't know any better. Later on in life, I got the writers bug and wrote a 500k word novel in around 3 weeks. I never went anywhere with it but it was something I was and still am proud of to this day.
When I discovered visual novels, I was amazed at how well crafted these stories could be. They contained beautiful artwork, well designed characters, interesting stories and moving dialogue.
I was hooked.
It was at this point that I decided that I would take all of my years tinkering with game engines and the stories I had rattling around in my head to finally create something worth while.
And so, I contacted an artist I was introduced to years ago and got him sketching characters for me and I was amazed at how well he captured the way I envisioned them!
More time passed and I really started cracking down on writing the story. Most of it is still in my head and is slowly flowing onto the page, though. I currently sit at around 30k words and I'm only three acts into the story!
My goal is to have a long, detailed and interesting story with several different endings available to the readers.
I suppose you'd like to have an idea as to what the story is all about?
"Broken Reflections follows the protagonist, a student who has suffered from depression their entire life, who has been sent to a school that specializes in students with illnesses and traumatic pasts.
Upon their arrival, they receive an overwhelming wave of depression, the likes that they have never experienced before, which causes them to do the unthinkable...
Suicide.
After drifting off to what they expect to be their final sleep, the are shocked by the fact they awaken the following morning.
Looking around their room, they see the evidence of their suicide as plain as day, so they know that they didn't simply dream it but after having swallowed all of their medication, they know that they could not have survived... And yet, they did.
The only clues they have are a large, black feather on their desk and a strange pocket watch in their nightstand.
So now they not only have to adjust to their new school but they also experience fragmented memories of that night and recall a tall man in a black coat and hat speaking to them.
While trying to piece together this mystery, they will encounter several others who share a single thing in common.
They are all different and, in that sense, they are all the same.
Who was the tall man?
Did they have a hand in their survival?
And what is this ominous presence that lingers over the school...?"
The issue I'm facing is that, before I can achieve a successful, full crowd funding at the end of the year, I need to be able to get the demo and true trailer ready to go before then.
And considering I am currently working less than 40 hours a week, have bills to get caught up on, as well as living expenses, funding this monster is becoming more than I can afford on my own...
This Is Where You Come In!
What I need is simple. I need enough initial funding to get this thing off the ground and gears moving before I can present the world with something worthy of full funding.
To do that, I need money for character and background art, the soundtrack and special effects for cinematic scenes.
If I can reach the full, $5000 goal, it will give me plenty to work with for what I have planned at the end of the year.
If I can't reach the full amount, then any money I raise will still be helpful in reaching the end of the year goal.
Why This Is Important to Me and Maybe Even You
With the world finally turning their eyes on mental health and understanding how they affect people in their day to day lives, I think a story like this will reach out to everyone out there who do suffer from illnesses such as these and relate to the characters.
I have several people I know (including myself) who suffer from depression, borderline personality disorder, PTSD, etc... And they all think that this is a great idea and can't wait to see it come to fruition.
For those who want to see what this can become, I'll be offering a few rewards that may catch you eye!
In the end, the future of Broken Reflections is in your hands. If I can't get things ready to go for the end of the year, I'm not sure what direction this project will take. I'll keep working on it, for sure but it's going to take a lot longer than I would like, and a lot longer than you would like, either.
Can't Donate? You Can Still Help!
If you're strapped for money like myself and can't manage to donate, then you can still help out the project by spreading the word to as many people as you can, especially if you're as hyped for this novel as I am!
Don't forget to visit the games Facebook and Twitter accounts to follow this journey with me!
Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer and I look forward to being able to bring you a story that you won't ever forget!
