There are five times as many fast food restaurants as supermarkets in the United States (New York Times, 2012). Of course, these fast food restaurants are not evenly distributed across all cities; low-income neighborhoods are often the ones overwhelmed with greasy, fried fast food options. This unhealthy food environment takes a toll on its residents. In South L.A., where it seems you can find a fast food restaurant or liquor store on every corner, residents are three times as likely to be obese as their West L.A. counterparts (Community Health Councils, 2012). Our film, “Buen Provecho,” welcomes you into the lives of two hard-working families from unwelcoming food environments who overcome enormous obstacles to buy nutritious food for their families.
By donating, you will be helping our film crew fund our efforts as we film, edit, and distribute our documentary. As many of you know, creating a film can be quite costly as editing software, DVD packaging, hiring of musicians, etc. can be quite expensive. Our goal here on indiegogo is set at $500; however, the more we can raise, the better quality work we can produce and the larger impact we can make. Help us bring awareness to our communities!
