Short Summary

The Watershed Project is a non-profit based out of Richmond, CA that is passionate about inspiring communities to understand, appreciate, and protect their local watersheds. Bye Bye Basura (the Spanish word for "trash"), is the first step in an ongoing pollution prevention program and educational exchange between San Pablo, California and sister city, Manzanillo, Mexico. Twice a year we visit Manzanillo to teach Mexican youth about their watershed and the little things we can all do to make a positive difference for our shared ocean. Mexican and American youth learn through engaging, hands on activities and are able to exchange ideas about marine debris internationally. This year we need your help raising money to pay for our intern, Pia's, flight to Manzanillo! We hope that she will be able to come along and share what she has learned about marine debris with the youth and possibly even have a life changing experience at the same time.

What We Need & What You Get

We are trying to find an affordable flight for our intern, Pia, to fly down to Manzanillo Mexico from the Bay Area. The money from this campaign will be used to directly finance her flights to and from Manzanillo for a first trip in October and a second in early spring of 2014. Pia is excited to share what she has learned about marine debris and the human impact on our shared ocean.  She is passionate about passing on our lessons about out environment and our watersheds to Mexican youth.

The Impact

The Bye Bye Basura program kicked off in 2010 and it has grown more and more each year. Youth from San Pablo CA, and sister city, Manzanillo MX are able to learn about and share their own experiences with marine debris in their watershed. We hope that this year, Pia can share her passion for a healthy enivronment through her knowledge and excitement. Any donation is greatly appreciated! Let's send Pia to Manzanillo!
