CampIdeas México
CampIdeas is project driven/motivated by the youth for the youth. We seek to encourage educational, scientific and leadership values throughout the selfrealization and social empowerment with activities such as lectures, seminars and workshops on themes of Science, Technology, Arts and Math.
The project, as its name refers, is carried out through camps where young high school students of different social contexts coexist weeks to share ideas, future projects and his passion for science. The activities carried out are implemented by the staff and student volunteers and specialists from various disciplines of science and the humanities.
In the camp several workshops are given such as the scientific method workshop, food chemistry, robotics, programming and origami. There are also seminars on topics ranging from tango classes and sports medicine to physiotherapy. As part of the social approach, we developed leadership activities designed for all participants to develop skills and teamwork skills, communication, control emotions and responsible leadership.
The final goal of each of the participants’ projects is to develop a sustainable and innovative scientific research that contributes to the solution of different social problems in their community. Due to the agreement that we have established with other science fairs, several of the projects generated by participants CampIdeas receive accreditations to participate in them and in order to promote their idea in more parts of Mexico and the world.
The impact
CampIdeas Mexico is a winner project fund awarded by the State Department of the United States through the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund program which had more than 1,000 applicants throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The project has generated a significant impact on all participants. In the first edition, as a final result had 32 scientific research projects that were presented at the Fair CampIdeas Sciences; and because each delegate worked your project with 2 or 3 other foreign students to the program, the impact amounted to 88 young people from different parts of Mexico. Of all final projects 10 were selected to participate in one of the two science fairs with which we had agreement: ExpoIdeas Michoacan and the International Forum for Science and Engineering Students. The first program two projects were selected to participate in a national contest: the Mexican Science and Engineering Fair 2015.
One of the participants and expressed the project:
"One of the things I learned through CampIdeas, was getting to know even more science and the beauty and limitlessness in it. I also learned the value of being a competent, creative, and comprehensive leader. Now that I am a former fellow of the camp, there is still much to do around us, and I think it may be possible to work as a leader and member of a team that follows step by step the small ideas to something special as I could learn. "
What do we need?
To continue impacting the lives of young high school students through science and social commitment, CampIdeas be consolidated as Civil Association to manage resources with public and private institutions, which implies a cost of $ 30,500.00 USD.
Risks and challenges
If we are unable to consolidate as Civil Association due to lack of resources, the management of further camps will be a very difficult task and we should limit ourselves to consider the option of charging a fee to people who wish to participate.
