Short Summary:
The Story:
I know what you’re thinking: Can you really debate the drinkability of a grape? Well… kind of. But this film captures much more than the systematic deconstruction of one of life’s greatest mysteries. The story follows four best friends who have been inseparable all their childhood; now, the night before leaving for college, they struggle to accept their impending independence. Indeed, while the four friends have personal ambitions — to become a renowned painter, a devoted family man, a groundbreaking engineer, and one of the few “good guys” in corporate finance — their hopes and dreams have always been tied to their relationships with each other. Over the course of one ridiculous, emotional evening, they must reckon with their inevitable divorce.
This movie asks: How do you visualize a future different from anything you’ve experienced? How can you grow up when you’re not ready to move on? How do you say goodbye to everything you’ve ever known? When confronting questions like these, sometimes it’s easier to lean into the absurd. But sometimes, you can’t avoid reality. This film aims to discover the best of both worlds. CAN YOU DRINK A GRAPE? is a buddy comedy and a twisted mystery, but at its core, it’s a coming of age story about coming into your own — while never letting go of the people who helped you get there.
