Happy Birthday Canada!
Background
My name's David Bayda and I am a proud Edmontonian, Albertan...and Canadian!
I couldn't be more excited to be celebrating Canada's 150 years. To mark the occasion, I really wanted to do something special to showcase true Canadian spirit, bring diverse communities together, and position Canada as a place where everyone is welcome at the table in the future.
This campaign is all about building a more positive and inclusive community. It's a one-of-a-kind event and will only be happening this year.
About the Project
The countdown is on until the Edmonton Heritage Days Festival (https://www.heritagefest.ca/) on August 5-7, 2017. This annual festival is one of the largest multicultural events showcasing the tastes, sights, sounds, and smells of over 100 countries! The Canada 150 Picnic will be just one of the many activities taking place at the park during the festival. It will also be free for everyone attending the festival. Visitors will be encouraged to take photos and share them on social media using the handle #Canada150Picnic. I am working at securing an official site at Hawrelak Park to host the project for the Saturday and Sunday of the festival.
Visitors will have a place to enjoy their meal, meet someone new in their community, and share in this amazing experience.
Now I need your help to roll this idea out! Follow #Canada150Picnic
Where things are at
To date, I have already poured tons of time (100+ hours since 2016), energy (I am guessing over 10,000 calories) and money ($500+ on everything from supplies, travel, fabric samples, marketing, sourcing, etc.)
I need to raise an additional $1,500.00 to help with costs. This includes everything from the purchase of the 150 feet of red & white checkered fabric, sewing expenses, purchasing rolls of clear plastic covering or fabric underlay, picnic table rentals, signage, film/photography, marketing, social media, and much more!
Perks
I have some really cool perks in store for you.
You might be wondering where all of the fabric will be coming from for some of the perks...well, I will actually be upcycling the 150 foot piece of fabric. After the Canada 150 Picnic, the fabric will be cleaned and then sewn into many commemorative keepsakes (napkins, tablecloths, and picnic blankets).
If I raise enough funds, I will be able to rent 25 picnic tables to raise the picnic off of the ground and onto the tables providing more comfortable seating for everyone.
Thank you
I'd love support from friends, family, individuals, non-profits, businesses, and community members! Please connect with me directly about partnering or collaborating.
A big thank you to all of my friends and family who have supported me so far! And a special thanks to Scott Lester for filming and Cindy with letsomnom.com for use of a photo of Heritage Days.
Be a part of something spectacular for Canada 150!
