Cancer Fairy: A Short Film
![]()
A young girl, diagnosed with cancer, is assigned her own personal "cancer fairy" to guide her through her journey.
A short comedy...
Jade, a young girl who has just graduated from high school, faces a life-altering diagnosis: cancer. The bright side? A sparkly new companion, Libby the cancer fairy, arrives to provide comfort and levity through this difficult journey.
What do we need to make this happen?
The goal is $9,000. It's a short film. We have a small cast and minimal crew for safety and efficiency.
So, here is what that 9k is providing...
- cast, crew, artist collaboration
- camera / lighting / sound equipment
- food and safety measures
- post production (editing and score)
- festival entry fees
- locations
Shooting in Nashville, TN is a cost-effective way that provides options for different looks.

A word from the muse…

At first glance, people commonly see me as a healthy young woman, bright, colorful, and maybe even a little strange. What they don’t know is that last January, I was diagnosed with cancer. As a nineteen-year-old in my second year of college, cancer wasn’t something that crossed my mind unless I was asked at checkout if I wanted to round up to the nearest dollar. To sum it up, I was terrified and confused. How could this be true? Did having cancer mean I would have to be living in a hospital for the rest of my life? Losing my hair? And frankly, losing my life? The world had just been resting at my fingertips and now I was stuck in my home state, away from my friends, out of school, and during a pandemic.
Whenever I talk about what I went through now, I try to keep it lighthearted, even though it was the darkest part of my life. Cancer makes people uncomfortable, they don’t know what to say to make me feel “better," even though that’s not the point. To survive cancer is to grieve the loss of the person you were before. To survive cancer is to be reminded of the children who don’t get to. Surviving cancer doesn’t feel like I won anything, but like I lost everything I had before. My perspective permanently changed.
A word from the director...
I am a passionate filmmaker, people-watcher, and avid believer in laughing off the pain. When faced with comforting my best friend through the unimaginable, the only way I knew how to cope was finding a way to make Jadyn smile. In this story, I hope to share this sense of friendship and comfort while watching someone you love fight cancer.
Thank you for your time!
