Ottawa’s first annual Ukrainian summer festival intends to
be one of the city’s premier events!
It will be our first annual festival. In order to bring to
Ottawa the full spectrum of our glorious Ukrainian customs and traditions, we
decided to launch this fundraiser so that we can bring more dancers and
performers to our Inaugural Event.
We simply want our visitors (you) to leave the Festival
breathless. We want our programming to
be inspiring enough to make you simultaneously laugh and cry, educational
enough to give us insight into ourselves and others, and captivating enough to
bring you back again next year to meet, greet and enjoy performances you may
only see once in a lifetime at one of the best parties in town. After all, this is Ottawa, home to some of
the best Festivals in North America.
It is not just about the music and the costumes and the dancing
and the food; it’s about all of them - at once. It is about being
immersed in the spirit and soul of Ukrainian arts, culture, history and
heritage.

Values, History and Traditions
But we all know that the Capital Ukrainian Festival will be so
much more than a fabulous party (Zabava), lively markets, and a courtyard full
of mouth-watering Ukrainian cuisine! The Festival will provide a forum to
preserve and promote shared cultural values and traditions. It provides
unique opportunities for immediate and long term community cultural
development. The Capital Ukrainian Festival is a building block for the
Ukrainian community because it promotes ethnic understanding within Ottawa and
beyond. Doing so preserves and celebrates Ukrainian customs, values,
traditions, history and culture. Having a Ukrainian festival in Ottawa is
of great importance not only because it will promote Ukrainian culture in
Canada, but also because it will help internationally recognize Ukraine to be a
modern, peace-loving, multicultural, tolerant and democratic country.
Transparency and
Accountability
The Capital Ukrainian Festival is organized by the Ukrainian
Canadian Congress (UCC), a not-for-profit organization that brings together,
under one umbrella, all the local Ukrainian Canadian organizations in
Ottawa. It is governed by Bylaws and a Constitution. An
annual, independent audit is performed annually to ensure that funds are
managed appropriately and according to accounting rules and regulations.
Charitable Tax Receipts will be issued upon request. Please submit proof
of your donation to capitalukrainianfestival@gmail.com in
order to receive a charitable tax receipt from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
