Welcome to our crowdfunding campaign for:
Here we will hope to explain our campaign in reasonable detail to ensure you all know what your hard earned money would be going towards. We will break down "Captive" as a concept first, then delve into the intricacies of where the money will be spent and then we'll follow that up with a quick introduction to some of the project's crew who are invested in bringing this small but ambitious short film project to life!
*cough* and discuss the risks and challenges that we may face *cough*
We hope that you join us on this journey and help us make something we are truly proud of.
Captive is a comedy-horror short film that follows the story of Dave, a man soon to be married who is captured and held prisoner by a suspected cannibal murderer - only to realise, after a bloody escape, that it was a stag do prank staged by his mates to prepare him for the weekend ahead! It's an ambitious piece that hopes to really use strong aesthetics and performances, along with the crucial support in the post-production stages, to draw audiences into a world of horror long enough to catch them out with the film's comedic punchline!

Our crowdfunding campaign is aiming to raise at least £1000 to bring Captive to life. Despite £1000 possibly seeming like a lot of money to create a short film, the unfortunate reality is that film props, costumes, equipment, travel expenses and catering can all mount up to hefty sums of money... never mind the cost for submitting the finished product into film festivals around the world!
Our team consists of young but experienced filmmakers who are always striving to hone their craft and develop themselves as creative storytellers. With Captive being a project where mise en scène is crucial, we can't afford to scrimp on props and costumes within the story. It is also crucial for us to be able to feed our hardworking cast and crew, along helping them afford transport to and from the set as they are working on this project with NO WAGE - simply because they're invested in the project.
If we fail to make our target, our film festival run and expenses will suffer - however, if we SURPASS our target then we have no excuse but to make a fantastic short film!
Any donation which you feel suitable for this project would be fantastic and truly appreciated! Please make sure to check out the selection of different perks and bundles available in exchange for your support. Thank you.
Can't afford to support our project financially? Share us on your social media accounts to help us spread the word - IndieGoGo offer some really handy share tools to help you share the project with your family and friends!

Thomas is an award-winning filmmaker, having received awards for his debut feature documentary Autism: A Curious Case of the Human Mind (2016) and smaller documentaries such as Sticks & Feathers (2018). Currently studying Film at Edge Hill University, Thomas is looking to continue creating films outside of his education - allowing him to develop a project where both he and his crew are not restricted by particular criteria, allowing them to flourish.
Captive feels like the perfect project to do so.

Tom Forfar will be working on set as our sound recordist but will also be in charge of Captive's overall sound mix and score. Just coming off the back of a gap year in the film industry, he is set to enter his final year of a Music at the University of Leeds. Tom has worked on everything from shorts to features, comedy to thriller and everything in between. He is a horror fan and takes inspiration from plenty of different films within the genre such as The Witch, The Conjuring and the Saw franchise.
"Personally, horror is one of my favourite genres and this is the first horror I’ve really been able to be a part of so I’m looking forward to it... When I work on a piece, I mainly aim to capture the feeling of the scene and bring it to life. And this is one thing I loved about the plot for Captive. I feel that I could really help drive the story and push the feeling shift from the beginning to end. The script goes from one extreme to another and I feel like I could help embellish that and really make it stand out." - Tom

James Lyall has experience in a plethora of roles on a film set, however, the majority of them include him being a camera operator/cinematographer. He's worked on various short films and documentaries, collecting valuable knowledge over multiple genres. He was recently the cinematographer on a thirty-minute thriller pilot entitled 'Discretion' - a project which is going into further production later this year.
"The script for Captive had me laughing out loud and itching to read on. The possibility of it is incredible and I can’t wait to be involved with what I expect to be an amazing production!"
- James

Every film production comes with its own risks such as people pulling out of the project last minute, bad weather affecting shooting days or even that our crowdfunding campaign fails to reach its original £1000 target. We are a creative team of experienced filmmakers that have faced similar risks and challenges on previous projects, and therefore are more prepared and equipped to deal with them might they arise. Any delays to the proposed October/November 2018 shooting period due to cast/crew leaving the project, or weather conditions interrupting travel arrangement will only postpone the shooting of
Captive to a later and more achievable date. In regards to our crowdfunding campaign - if our £1000 target is NOT reached, then travel expenses and film festivals will be the first to take a hit. The film being made is the priority, cast and crew who are less experienced and therefore more prepared to cover their own expenses may have to be hired and a film festival budget may have to be sought out through a follow-up crowdfunding campaign (although we'd just prefer to smash this one to be honest with you, haha).
